Jelmer C31
What's up guys! This is my first post here. I'm Jelmer and I'm from the Netherlands. I have a 1984 Patrol 160 with L28 and a 1983 Laurel C31 with a L24 in it. The Laurel shares its chassis with the Skyline R30 and some parts with the Bluebird / Maxima 910. These Laurels are very rare these days, most of them got exported to Africa or rusted out back in the days. Finding parts was a big job and I found them in Belgium, the UK and the headlight in South America! How I bought it earlyer this year: Some new suspension parts: Exhaust was a mess, all kinds of exhaust parts from different cars collected and "welded" together to look a bit like a exhaust! So I made a new stainless 2,5" exhaust with two Borla straight thru mufflers: It had been used on dirt roads and a lot off things had to be done to get it on the road again! I decided to drive it with the single carbed L24 first and build a L28 turbo for it later. My Patrol is also single carbed L series powered (L28) and needs for power to so I decided to build 2 L28 turbo's! The Laurel one will get the better parts for power and the Patrol will get the parts for torque (RB20DET turbocharger, JDM throttlebody with one small and one big throttle blade etc.) Laurels 4 Quote Link to comment
Jelmer C31
I got some go fast goodies in and coming in! And some look good goodies: I bought 2 used turbo's; one RB20 turbo for the Patrol and one RB25 turbo for the Laurel. I'm going to use the euro turbo manifold for the Laurel together with a F54 block, P90 head, turbo intake and Megasquirt. But first the outside will be getting attention; paint the wings and put new bumper on with the chrome and headlicht wipers 1 Quote Link to comment
Jelmer C31
There has been offered an VG30DET (no DETT or ET!) to me cheap! These are JDM engines from a Cima or Cedric. So I might go this route but first I want to check if the turbo will clear my steering box. Quote Link to comment
ArchetypeDatsun
Nice Laurel great to see something different I own a 1979 Datsun 810 Wagon my self has the L24E still in it with a 1983 280zx 5 speed, also had a 1984 Datsun Maxima (910) that had the L24E as well and 5 speed great cars. Jelmer C31
It should clear! So the DET is mine! It doesn't come with a computer so I wil put my Microsquirt or Megasquirt 2 on it right away. VG30DET's are non intercooled and I will run it that way first. These Laurels have loads of room under the hood so I can run the rad and intecooler inside the bay without cutting. Quote Link to comment
Jelmer C31
L24 is out! The VG after I took the A/C compressor and bracket off Got a Z32 TT trannny on the stock Laurel crossmember here but it has to move more to the front. Lots of room! 2 Quote Link to comment

Jelmer C31
I got the engine test fitted yesterday. I wasn't to sure anymore if it would fit but it does! It sits pretty forward in the engine bay because the turbo sits where it steeringbox sits too. Weight distribution wise it would be perfect to have it up against the fire wall but it is a big 4 door saloon so iy doesn't matter that much. It has to move a bit backwards in this picture: Had to cut the the stock engine mount from the subframe: Thight fit with the downpipe and steeringbox but with some insulation it will be fine (I hope) This intake pipe will be removed because I go intercooler so it will clear the MC: Next time I will hookup the tranny to see how that will sit and make a mount for it. That way I can position the engine/tranny to have a good driveline angle and make engine mounts. Quote Link to comment
DutchDatsun
Looks very nice in there Quote Link to comment
Jelmer C31
Got the transmision mocked up yesterday on temporary mounts. I had to cut up the stock trans mount a bit but it fits nice now. Driveshaft angle is like stock. I'm thinking about making a brace to the shifterbracket mounts on the top of the tranny to make the new mount strong enough. The oilpan might need a tuck to make sure it doesn't hit the anti roll bar Engine sits nice in there with the manifold like this: Unbolting the tranny it not an issue with this one! Clears everything nice on this side: This side not to bad either: Maybe I can still run the intercooler inboard, it depents a bit on how much I can mount it "in" the front: 1 Quote Link to comment
