Madness
Im trying to build up my 521 but i want to skip building the bottom end, for some reason i just cant stand doing it and a machine shop is going to charge me a lot to build one. So if anyone knows of a builder or a website that i can go on to order a L16 short block please let me know. Im getting really frustrated with my search. Are there any companies that build stuff for datsuns other than the Z anymore? :cursing: Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Not much to build on the bottom end The L16 is a same as a 240z as for piston size and bearings. You acan almost do it your self on those if the bore doesnt need to be honed out or pistons changed. Re ring it and bearing it. That will be cheap and EZ to do as it only a L16 http://www.guba.com/general/search?query=datsun&set=5 Quote Link to comment
datsunfish
second that.. Honing,re ring and bearings is as about as hard as doing the brakes..just bigger and heavier. Nobody does anything to the L16 anymore. Its hard to find any L motor anymore. Gotta get it done yourself. Quote Link to comment

racerx
I went through the same decision about 6 mos. ago. My tired L16 finally went south and I was thinking of rebuilding. Found a remanufactured L18 with warranty, including s/h for $800 and no core charges. Yeh, can't do much these days with L16. guess it depends on what you want out of it. If it's daily driver then go with L16-L20 but if you want more HP go KA or SR. Quote Link to comment
