V521V
Hello Ratsun, hit a wall and i know its something easy to fix. Here's my problem.. truck will only run off alternative fuel when i dump gas down carb. It is getting plenty of fuel delivery to the carb. I can take the fuel inlet off and it squirts lots of fuel. I put a brand new weber dgv on and got the same results as with the stock hitachi. Pulling out my hair because i know the problem is simple and i just dumped ~$3 bones on a carb i didn't need. O well i have a spare now. I have adjusted valve lash to correct gaping. Going to check timing tonight. Anything i should look for? Im thinking vacuum maybe? Thanks, v521v Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Engine off. Look down the carb and pump the throttle. You should see a strong squirt of fuel shoot into the primary side. If not the carb is not filling up or is empty. 1 Quote Link to comment
Ed-datsun521
Clogged jet ? From old rubber hose ? This happened to me a couple times when I changed fuel filter Quote Link to comment
V521V
I don't have a helper, but i did pump the linkage by hand at the carb and I am getting a good jet of fuel into carb. It needs plugs and wires so ill get those and throw those on also. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Pumping the gas several times is the same as dumping fuel down the carb. If pumping the gas doesn't work.... maybe the gas isn't gas in the garb. Maybe it's sucked in water from the tank. 1 Quote Link to comment
V521V
Wow!! thank you sooo much! I pumped a half gallon out of the line and into a jug. It looked really clear and didn't smell as strong as gas should. Fixed the problem! What would cause this just in case it happens again? Bad gas? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Filler hose to tank rotted and wheel spray or rain getting in. Water will settle to the bottom of tank. The last gas you bought, was it somewhere different than usual? Maybe they have a problem 1 Quote Link to comment
V521V
I just relined the tank so Im assuming i just got a bad batch of gas. It is an older local station and i might have got gas after they churned up the crud from the bottom of there tanks. Not sure, but its got good fuel now. Thanks again for the advice. 1 Quote Link to comment
bilzbobaggins
Did you put a gasket on where the fuel sending unit goes? 99% of my fuel problems went away when I replaced mine. Water goes down past the access door in the bed and puddles on top of the tank. Food for thought 1 Quote Link to comment
