14x5 Slotted Center OE Wheels w/3 balls for hub cap: What years?

I thought I had (5) 14x4.5 rims but it turns out I have (1) 14x5 that has the slotted center.  NOTE:  the slot shape is a "racetrack."

Since I mounted one of my snow tires on it, I don't want to mount the other one on a 4.5, so I need to find another 14x5.

How this isn't unobtanium.

Thanks DatsunMike for the info - I was suspecting the 5in were disc brake related.

Wheel Stamping (hard to read)

J14x5 J78T TOPY 908 78F38  (bold I'm pretty sure of)  Looks like a 1978...

Slot Layout and Dimensions:

Number of Slots = 6

Shape shape is Racetrack 50mm x 17.5mm  (race track is a 50 x 17.5 rectangle w/8.75mm fillet radii - it has parallel sides with semi-circle ends)  NOTE:  I can just see trying to explain the shape to some junk yard guy, but the 50 x 17.5 they should handle... maybe.

I know that there is a "D" shaped slot which mine are not.  I wonder how many slot styles there were:_

EDIT:  Here is a thread about wheels and disc brakes where the poster has pics that look just like mine on post #11 but he claims he is using 521 wheels.

I also got images from Google of the "racetrack" slots:

Should have mentioned...

4.5" J X 14.... 40300-B9200..... Aug '76 - July '77 have the the D shaped slots and bumps molded into the rim to hold the hub caps on.

The disc brake rims

5" J X 14....... B9800-40300..... Aug '77- have flattened slots and  3 round balls the hub caps snap over.

The 720 had rims that would also fit the 620. I think the early '80-'82? were probably the same as the late 620s used.

Interesting, so there were 4.5in with bumps instead of the balls.  I guess the 4in and the early 4.5in have the balls (my set of 4.5's have balls and no slots)

NOTE

I'm also learning about the kingpin -v- ball joints on the 620 (!):  From the parts manual it looks like from 8/77 on, 620's were all ball joint and all disc brake.

So I guess the "best" 620 to have would be 8/77 or later (actually 1979 since they had the plastic front fender liners (last year is usually the best of a model), or a pre-74 L16 w/o EGR.

The 74 is still Total Loser which I guess applies to ALL Datsuns.

I guess you just never know until it happens to you, huh?

Unlike today's emission equipment the old engines still made pollution and the emissions equipment cleaned up the mess.

The EGR does almost nothing to performance as it is ported vacuum operated. There is no vacuum (or EGR) at idle and none at full throttle. Later models included a thermal vacuum switch so there was no EGR during warm up on a cold engine. Later again a back pressure transducer was added which applies EGR in direct proportion to exhaust back pressure... a much more accurate way of using EGR in relation to engine load.

Funny how the info they list in the books is not always accurate.

My truck with production date 1/77 has wheels that are dated coded 1/77 and have the balls to hold the caps on.
