Newbie with a 620 question.

Last week my truck died on me driving home. It's a 1974 620. I noticed there wasn't any fuel in the float. I removed the recently replaced mechanical fuel pump to find that the spring was missing off the piece that goes into the motor. Should I be worried about if the spring may still be somewhere in the motor? Also, how far in can it go? Sorry if this a stupid question but I'm not only new to Datsuns but new to motors too.

In theory it could end up in the oil pan if it can get down past the distributor/oil pump spindle and beside the timing chain. It would sink to the bottom and be no problem there. Might even fall out on an oil change. I suppose it could go through the crank timing chain sprocket. That would chew it up and let it pass into the pan.
