Low73620
Hey all! What here is what i have. I have a 73 620 with a 4speed, hoping to swap with this unknown Nissan 5speed. I know i have some issues to work out. but here is my main concern... After comparing the the 2 side by side i noticed that the input shaft is slightly different, seems the pilot shaft is longer on the 4speed. 4speed 5speed Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
That is an L series FS5W71B 5 speed made after '79. With a neutral switch for carb based emissions, it can only be from the '80 720 2wd truck. The top gear switch (only used on California emissions vehicles) means it's from ... California. It will be too long for your '73 to just drop in. You will need to shorten your present driveshaft by about 5.5 inches OR find the front driveshaft from a '74-'79 620 truck which had this length transmission. This will be cheaper than having yours shortened. The part below is your release bearing and collar. The collar (top part) holds the bearing (round bottom part) Make damn sure that you use your release bearing and collar that was on your four speed. Do NOT us the one that is on the 5 speed now. Have the bearing pressed off and a new bearing pressed on. The bearing is a high wear item and not easy to service if it should start to make noise so put a new one on while it is out. The '73 620 truck release bearing is # 30502-21000 and about $40 at the dealer so use this number and have NAPA cross reference one. The bearing looks (more or less) like this... Low73620
Looks like I'm in the market for a front half drive shaft. Thanks Mike.. I saw in few of your posts that you repaired your drive shaft center support isolator bushing, Do you have any pics? Thanks again Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
No pics, I thought it was temp. Just think of a thick belt wrapped around the driveshaft and tightened down.. Quote Link to comment
