zachdaddy
Hey guys. New to this forum. Wanted to ask a couple questions about a 1975 Datsun 620 I scooped up a couple weeks back from the original owner. That's right... 1 owner w/ only 72k miles. It was a rare find and a lucky one at that. The truck is on ebay currently and I've got a guy telling me that the Truck does not have an EGR. I said it did in my ebay listing because it has a pod on the dash that says "EGR". The gentleman is telling me that Nissan did not have egr's until 1980 and that what I am looking at is a EGT warning light to indicate that the cat is getting too hot or something to that effect. Can you guys shed any light on what the pod is that reads "EGT". Also.... Same guy is telling me that this truck does not have factory A/C and is rather just a Aftermarket unit. I had put in my ebay ad that it had Factory A/C. It sure looks factory to me as the controls are molded into the dash very well and everything appears to be factory. Was A/C even an option back in 1975? Thanks in advance for any input fellas. I really wanted to keep this truck but it just isn't an option for me right now financially. I almost feel bad about buying it from this old man for what was paid, but it was the number he threw out there, and I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough. Quote Link to comment
red13
Well what I found on the A/C is its a dealership mod rare to find the whole system. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The guy knows very little. Datsun first used EGR in 1974 in USA. When used with catalytic converter, it was named NAPS (Nissan Anti-Pollution System). Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Definitely the '74 L18 powered truck was the first year for EGR. The EGR warning lamp has nothing what ever to do the a catalytic converter. The EGR is turned on by a counter that approximates your mileage. When it gets to 30K the lamp comes on to remind the owner to remove and wire brush exhaust deposits off the valve so it closes properly. '76 and on trucks for California that were catalytic converter equipped had a floor sensor to detect an over hot condition which activates a relay and illuminates a dash warning lamp. It's possible that the 'pod' on top of the dash may have EGR and Temp warning lamps in it if from California, I'm not sure. But if it says EGR then it's definitely EGR and not a temp warning. zachdaddy
Thanks Guys. My 1975 610 did real well on ebay. Higgest bidder won it with a bid of $5200. Not bad considering I picked it up for $750  Quote Link to comment
