charolastra
Hi I have a few question I wanna do a front and rear brakes upgrades to my 76 b210. Anybody knows the easy-cheap-better way to do it? Thanks. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Cheap, easy, best: swap in 280ZX struts, brakes and all. More expensive but not better: Wilwood brake kit. For the rear take the shoes to a local brake company and have them fit performance linings. Then adjust them correctly. They'll pull down fast. Quote Link to comment
charolastra
Rear brakes are new from rockauto, can't remember the brand right now but i orderer the expensive ones. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Those are just standard brakes. Don't you want upgraded brakes? Quote Link to comment
charolastra
Yes sir. Thanks again for the help Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
There's little to be gained from rear disc brakes. They look cool, lighter, simpler, easy to change pads and there's bragging rights for the conversion but in real life they don't stop any faster than a well set up drum brake. They can work at extreme temperatures better than drums but you won't reach this on the street. Totally agree on the 280zx front struts though. The limiting factor then becomes the front tire traction to the pavement. The zx brakes won't stop you any faster than the stock brakes if the skinny tires lock up. Quote Link to comment
Sierra
Any year 280ZX works? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
'79-'83 struts. '81 on for the rear disc... they look nicer. Check that your stock rims will clear the front calipers, I doubt they will. If you find a '79-'80 get the 15/16" master. If you don't use it other's might Quote Link to comment
Sierra
Thank you datzenmike and thank you charolastra for creating this thread. I will start my search for those 280ZX in the local yards. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
280ZX brakes fit under 14" wheels Quote Link to comment
Sierra
Got it! The reason why I want to do the swap is b/c the current wheels I have on rub the front fenders when I do sharp turns. Here is a pic of the wheels. 1 Quote Link to comment
charolastra
So if I found a 81-83 can I use the b210 master? Its there a build thread for this convertion? And for the rear disc? Nice car Sierra! Like the color, what kind of tires do you have? And what size? I have the z black pearls but im looking for the tires http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/attachments/wheels-tires-brakes-s30/27109d1229208175-6-spoke-280zx-wheels-100_0665.jpg Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yes you can use the B210 master cylinder with the 280ZX front brakes. Rear discs??? For the rear take the B210 brake shoes to a local brake company and have them fit performance linings. Quote Link to comment
