Cardinal Grammeter
I have issues with my 74 parking lights (not side lights) and was unable to find interchange information. Perhaps this thread could become a reference for everything we need to know about this component. So what models and years will interchange for the various components: Lens only Rubber "gasket/boot" only Metal bucket only Bucket assembly w/correct connector (round black hard rubber - 1 male, 2 female) I can only add that I have an assembly that has the wrong connector (round white plastic) and the lens is identical and everything else seems to be the same. Can parking lights from other models be used? Sources for new, used, reproduction are? Obviously there's eBay but I'd bet there are other places that are good sources. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
There is no interchange for the side lights. Although these look identical, they have different part numbers. 620 lenses 1200 - has individual wire connectors. amber front, red rear pointed lenses 240Z has individual wires 260Z has the rectangular connector. The late 510 units 1970-1972 the 240Z pointed lens. B210 - pointed in front, uses 240Z lenses Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Aren't the parking lamps the ones in the front valance?? In that case all 620 are the same with the exception of the plug. ggzilla aren't those called clearance or side marker lights? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The 620 Side Lights changed in March 1973, so there are early ones and late ones. The packing and housing changed. Lenses stayed the same. These parts are the same as the 1200: 26181-H1900 LENS, FRONT [amber] 26191-H1900 LENS, REAR [red] 26715-89902 BULB 12V-8W(ICHIKHO) [Trade type 67] SIDE MARKER LAMP 26182 RIM [chrome trim, 4 per vehicle] 26180 SIDE MARKER LAMP ASSY, FRONT RH 26185 SIDE MARKER LAMP ASSY, FRONT LH 26190 SIDE MARKER LAMP ASSY, REAR RH 26195 SIDE MARKER LAMP ASSY, REAR LH PACKING, RH [gasket] PACKING, LH 01451-00041 SCREW, FRONT [2 per side] 01451-00051 SCREW, REAR [2 per side] Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Aren't the parking lamps the ones in the front valance?? "Parking lights" are incorporated into: * Side Marker Lamps * Front Combination Lamp * Rear Combination Lamp Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If someone says parking lamps they don't mean side marker lamps or anything else. Parking lamps are at the front of a vehicle on either side and are only white or amber, never red. Side marker lamps are as the name implies and also designate vehicle's direction of travel by their red or amber color. The both help identify a vehicle's presence, yes but a parking light is a parking light. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The side lights on the 620 for USA come on when the headlight switch is pulled to the 1st notch (parking). If someone says parking lamps they don't mean side marker lamps or anything else. Parking lamps are at the front of a vehicleWhat Cardinal Grammeter meant only he can say. Some people call all the running lights "parking lights". For example, Parking lights are automotive lamps designed to increase the visibility of a car in a variety of situations ... to alert oncoming drivers to the presence of the parked car. ... Typically, a car has parking lights located on either side of the front of the car, on the outside of the headlights. They may also appear in the rear, or along the side of the vehicle to further increase visibility. http://www.wisegeek.org/what-are-parking-lights.htm Quote Link to comment
Cardinal Grammeter
Lots of great side light info - I'm going to change the thread title to include side lights. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The front ones are called by Datsun the "front combination lamp".There is no parking light by itself on a 620 but only a filament inside the Combo Lamp. Quote Link to comment
Guest Rick-rat
The front lights in the valance come on when I pull my switch to the first position my "parking" lights and "side" markers come on. before side lights were put on cars and trucks the front and rear turn signal combination lights were the "parking" lights Quote Link to comment
Cardinal Grammeter
Does anyone make connectors to repair damaged wiring harnesses? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yes, the factory Datsun type connectors can be purchased new. Quote Link to comment
Cardinal Grammeter
I, too, think they can be purchased new, but the real trick is knowing where to look. Wiring Specialties does not have them - they don't go back that far. What is worse is that the round black rubber style appears to be used for only a single year. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The round black rubber connector on the 1974 voltage regulator and wiper motor? Quote Link to comment
Cardinal Grammeter
Actually the wiper motor uses the plastic rectangular 2x3 connector w/5 wires. The regulator does use the "round black rubber" connecter as do the front combination lights. That style connector is all over the wiring harness. I should take some pictures and and patch them into a single pic. (Someone somewhere must make freeware to do that!) I know with the regulator, there are at least 3 styles for the 620 white, rectangular plastic (blade terminals) - I think pre-74 black, round rubber (pin terminals) - I think 74 only white, round plastic (pin terminals) - I think post-74 The following pics show the above 3 styles: Quote Link to comment
