Driftease
Is there any possibility that your cam timing is off? have you put a timing lite on it to verify correct spark angle and are you using a turbo damper cause i had one get off on the markings cause the disk slipped on the rubber just some thoughts Quote Link to comment
Watson
Gentlemen, I appreciate the responses but I have in fact tried everything that was suggested. Atomic, I can't tell you how many times I've come across exactly what you've posted. :P Believe me when I say I have tried EVERY variable. Driftease, I have not seen any deviation in timing so I don't think that's the problem. I do however, have an idea. I suspect my frankenstein optical sensor is not up to the task of high speed triggering in automotive applications based on some info I got from a user in another forum, and based on a suspicion that my sensor just isn't good enough. It's the only variable I haven't changed so I ordered a new XR700 optical sensor and had it overnighted. It should be here tomorrow. Fingers crossed. 1 Quote Link to comment
Atomic
I see :p then it has to be with sensors, wiring or hardware~ What kind of trigger you have? Trigger wheel? Quote Link to comment
Atomic
and what EFI you have and what version? nvm, found it~ Mega 1 V.3, right? Edited April 11, 2014 by Atomic Quote Link to comment
Driftease
Ahh the cat an mouse game, good idea on the optical sensor. I didnt think of that usually optical sensors have a nice output for ms. Quote Link to comment

Watson
Its running. Its moving. Got a basic tune done to at least take Watson around the block. Huge thanks to my buddy Zach for helping out with the build. It took just over a month to make this all happen and now its all about tuning to get it to run great. Stay tuned to witness the true power of Watson the Datsun!!!! :P 2 Quote Link to comment
Driftease
Good to hear it what did it end up being that made it not run before? That thing sounds great! Quote Link to comment
Watson
The phototransistor I used wasn't up the the task of high speed changes I suppose. The IR LED and receiver worked out great as an optical trigger in the distributor. Video of today's issues. Any tips? A sweet shirt came in today! 1 Quote Link to comment
Driftease
One quick thought would be a rich misfire in that area, sometimes it helps to interpolate your map or reduce the problem cells within reason the try autotune again. Have someone follow behind you in the problem area to look for black smoke to verify if you do not like the idea of leaning it out manually on a whim. Are you noticing any detonation when it says it is lean? Quote Link to comment
r0p0doe
Sounds like your running Spal fans Quote Link to comment
Watson
The issue turned out to be a far too low value on deceleration enrichment. Interesting. Anyway, I change the value from 5% to 100% and bam! No more cut outs or lean outs. Got a little bit of tuning done today. Watson is running great! I had to give it just a little gas to hear the turbo spool up. As it turns out, blow off sounds are quite rewarding. :POn the way home the fuel pump decided to it was time to start dying. I just happen to have a Walbro 255lph fuel pump laying around. That will go on tomorrow. 1 Quote Link to comment
Driftease
Sweet, enjoy! Quote Link to comment
Watson
I'm still tuning but I couldn't help but to get on it just a little bit. I only brought it up to 4 psi and even that put a smile on my face. :D 2 Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Watson where are our updates  what's going on with your build? 1 Quote Link to comment
Watson
I'm sorry I let the thread die!!!! Ahhhh!!!! I've still been working on this car, as well as helping with some of my buddies other projects. So here's an update of what's going on: My first event is 19 July, so I'm scrambling trying to get every last minute thing tied up. The fuel system was shit. Rust in the tank. Rust in the lines. No bueno. I replaced the ENTIRE fuel system, save for the stock fuel rail. That was at least salvageable. I'm now running a fuel cell with proper filters, Walbro 255 inline pump, and aluminum hard line. Making stainless steel braided line with cool AN fittings is fun! My first home made line. How precious! The fuel cell, all bolted down and hooked up! The rust that came out of the filter. Yikes! So now with the fuel issue solved, the engine is running soooooo much better! I'm still awaiting an OEM FPR (the ebay one that's on it now won't maintain pressure. 36 psi one day and 43 the next!) and new NGK plug wires as I've got some nasty corrosion on one of them. Hopefully then I can take Watson past 5000 rpm with no issues. Hopefully, because I'm taking him drifting on the 19th. Here's a small shake down video of Watson. Just running him through his paces, although he's still not 100 percent. 4 Quote Link to comment

Watson
SUCCESS!!!! I installed a CAS to nix that crappy optical trigger and viola! All of my timing issues are resolved! Time to get it on a dyno to get the top end properly setup. It goes real fast. 4 Quote Link to comment

Watson
A buddy of mine and I decided to do some random what-nots to the Datsun. We made this. A wooden dash and a fender exist of the exhaust. Pics of the final exhaust setup once the stainless steel plate is on to take up the slack cut-out area. Video tomorrow of the sound. I can't wait to start it up! Quote Link to comment
