dat521gatherer
So I got out my timing light and it looked like #4 wasn't firing. I looked under the cap and it was pretty bad so I replaced it last night. While I was in there I looked at the 4 magnet gaps and noticed that #4 was rubbing to the point that wearing down the post I have seen this before on electric dizzys. I took it off to un-seize the magnet from the whatever you call it and basically destroyed it. When they are not stuck you can loosen the three screws and adjust it but not by much. This is what I ended up with. Super glue does not work for gluing magnets back together especially when they are trying to push each other away. So I taped it up ratsun style. I dont suppose I can just buy that part from nissan. The tap worked. Trimmed. Yeah I know it's about as sketchy as you've ever seen. But for now it works. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
That is not a problem. The.problem is the bearing plate underneath. See http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=Matchbox#Inspection Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
The wires are new. The plugs look like number 4 is fouled. The carb fuel level is super high. I cant find any vacuum leaks. It seems like it's hitting on all four but at this point it's hard to tell. It wont idle. There is a random puff/cloud of white smoke that comes out going down the road like spyhunters smoke screen then it's gone. I screwed in my compression tester and I got 145 145 168 125. That bothers me. The book says they should be 190 something. That seems high. So i'm thinking a oil control problem. Blown head gasket or flooding out carb. 1 Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
I'll check the shaft or bearing plate if I can but if you look at the holes in this pic you can see the room for adjustment. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Why check the shaft? Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
I typed that thinking plate then just added plate after shaft. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
In my experience, the common bad plate bearing (which causes the teeth to hit) does not cause a miss. At worst it causes the vacuum advance to seize, with a little loss of fuel economy and low-throttle smoothness. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
> The carb fuel level is super high. You can adjust that now. No kit is required. http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=Float_Level_Adjustment > It wont idle. Jack the idle up to 1500 rpm and kept driving it. > look like number 4 is fouled ... I screwed in my compression tester and I got 145 145 168 125 Yep, #4 has a worn compression ring. Change the plug periodically until you are ready to re-ring the engine. By the way, compression check doesn't test oil control rings, only compression and valves. Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
I took apart the wiper squirter motor and freed it up and unclogged the hard metal lines with a strand of copper wire. Works great now. Today it drove real nice with the fuel level in the center of the glass eye. 1 Quote Link to comment

D.D.Anderson
The jack is sometimes found mounted under the passenger seat, and the handle under the drivers seat. Quote Link to comment

dat521gatherer
I'm a little behind on this thread. I have a kidney stone that's stuck at it sucks. So I went to put in a new float valve and taking off the carb was a pain cause you need to have 10 year old little girl hands to get to anything. In the end I took it all off and put a weber on it. ggzilla
Haha I did the same thing but used a nickel. Those plugs cost me 10 cents Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
To shorten the story the carb ran great for about 1 hour probably less. I decided to put oil in it and it started missing immediately. See I put the weber on. I decided to buy another engine and clean up the bay. Quote Link to comment

dat521gatherer
I haven't got a lot done because of medical problems but I did score a license frame. I have the original black plastic one but you can't really repaint the letters as they are thin stickers. 1 Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
Wow, your B310 is looking great. Where did you pick up the engine? Remaned? Medical problems suck, glad to see you are still able to enjoy the Datsun. Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
I bought it from a guy down by you. Mad datsun or Datsun bill as some call him. I decided to have him rebuild the a15 that was in the car so now I have a spare rebuilt a14. Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
Oh lord. Hurry up and put it back together already. Sheesh. I cleaned and painted the grill and headlight assemblies. Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
I decided to have the original a15 rebuilt instead of using the a14 I bought. 1 Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
I still have a bunch of smalls to paint. I have to try real hard not to be a perfectionist or I wont get anything done. So in a rush I now have over spray in a few places. Ugh. Quote Link to comment
