millican
I have this leaky oil filter that I can no longer buy replacement cartridges for. It's making a mess of my engine and doing no good. It connects directly to the oil pan on one end. I haven't traced the other line down yet. Is there normally a filter that connects straight to the oil pan? You can see the connector in this image. It's an SD22 engine. Quote Link to comment
laotsu
A PhD from Arkansas, is that like a driver's license from a crackerjack box? http://repair-manuals.blogspot.com/2011/06/nissan-sd22-sd23-sd25-sd33-engine.html?m=1 Quote Link to comment

laotsu
well judging from the diagram link I posted there it would seem that you have some sort of after market oil cleaner set up. Quote Link to comment
millican
That's great news. I can take that leaking toilet paper roll-sized thing out and plug that hole. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I thought it a turbo return line. The SD motors has normal screw on oil filter canisters. There are after market 'filters' that don't replace the canisters but work in parallel with them to filter oil through toilet paper medium. Some pictures of your oil filter, maybe?? 1 Quote Link to comment
millican
There is the normal filter as well, and it has been replaced. Quote Link to comment
Farmer Joe
that line to the oil pan is probably the oil return for the alternator vacuum pump. im pretty sure it has oil pressure going to it to keep the vacuum pump lubed... i might be wrong, but im pretty sure sd22's didnt come factory turbo to need the oil return. datzenmike
lol. Ya didn't mean to imply they did. It was the first thing I saw and the title does not say diesel. Just checked.... California SD trucks have an oil filter with a by-pass filter and return line to the oil pan. Quote Link to comment
millican
Judging from the dealership's name on the bumper, it was originally bought in Louisiana. I have a trip to make to Arkansas in about a week, after that I'll probably take off that oil pan. Thanks guys! Quote Link to comment
