dat521gatherer
I need to come up with something cause the bungee just isn't cutting it. It doesn't look like I can just use a generic hold down so if I can see how it's supposed to be done I can make something work. Quote Link to comment
az_rat210
Mine is 3 peices. 2 tall screw sections with a fish hook at the end, goes in holes on the battery mounting plate, then a bar across the top that the threads go through and wing nut on. Here is a photo of one on ebay. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
I do not know if this will help, but a while ago, I repaired some battery hold downs I had from 521 trucks. They would be really simple to make from scratch, or at least some cut up 18 ga sheet metal. I noticed two types of corners on the hold down. I call this a cap corner. And this is an interlock corner. I made a battery hold down by bending the steel sheet, clamped in a vice, between two other pieces of steel, because the jaws on the vice were not long enough. All the cuts in the steel were just made with a 1/32 x 3 cutoff wheel, in an air grinder. For hold down bolts, I took an old 3/8 nail, heated one end with a torch, and bent the end. Then I welded a piece of 5/16 all thread to the bent nail, to make a "J" bolt. For the loop on the hold down, that the bolt goes through, I just bent a small strip of 18 gauge steel around the all thread, and welded that to the battery hold down in the proper place. dat521gatherer
Replies awesome. The main problem is I see no factory holes for the j hook bolts. I'll get some pics this weekend since I'll be in there anyway replacing the volt reg. 15.8 volts is not good. Thats probably why the battery area is so rusty from the battery over charging.
