Ascendashogun
Hey guys!Remember the 240z I posted for sale for $2500??Well it happened to return back to my posession.Kid never came through with the money...So this has turned into my full on project.Little history...I bought this back in September of 2011, it had been sitting for...well...god knows how long ._.Seemed to be forgotten but NOPE! The owner was old and withering and he dropped it over into my lap. Within a week of "buying" the car, I had changed the oil, rebuilt the carbs, cleaned the filters, drained every fluid reservoir this car has. Short of a few small issues (fuel pump and leavy oil) she hit the road. Febuary rolled around and she sat again. Carbs needed rebuilt AGAIN and the fuel pump issue NEEDED resolved (1 mpg is a LITTLE excessive -_-)Got the carbs back and a new fuel pump, cranked it...no start :(I gave up on it a little bit. My uncle kept pushing and pushing, but i felt like I lost my drive. Then I had some family issues and had to move.Fast forward a bit. September 2013...Stumbled on a valve cover and oil pan gasket. books. a couple gauges. taillights...ALL SORTS OF SPARE SHIT!Then the owner calls me and said he had some issues and was giving me the car back. (THANK YOU GOD!)So I gander with it a bit. Found out the old mech fuel pump had a damn SPACER on it! So the arm PROBABLY (hopefully) wasnt hitting the cam lobe to pump the fuel. Im going to pull the valve cover to find out.I watched a video last night...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EO2y_-vpolA I think I have my drive back...theres nothing like the sound of an L series motor...nothing that quite excites me the same.Ill update later with pictures of the car!Stay tuned!!! 2 Quote Link to comment

blue72
The mechanical pump on Z cars came from the factory with a phenolic spacer (orange thing) between it and the cylinder head. Still not a bad idea to pull the valve cover and make sure everything is okay with the fuel pump eccentric on the end of the camshaft. 1 Quote Link to comment
s14kouki10
LOL I started working on my car after watching that video . 1 Quote Link to comment
Z-train
Carbs needed rebuilt AGAIN and the fuel pump issue NEEDED resolved (1 mpg is a LITTLE excessive ) This is flat impossible. And that FP "spacer"is supposed to be there. Quote Link to comment
Ascendashogun
This is flat impossible. And that FP "spacer"is supposed to be there. uh. I primed the carbs the first time it started. Gas hit the seals. Seals dried out. Fucked now. And the arms are different lengths between the old mech and new mech Quote Link to comment
Z-train
Get the proper pump WITH the spacer in place. Quote Link to comment
Ascendashogun
Get the proper pump WITH the spacer in place. From where? I have the spacer. I'm going to crack it open to see if the pump is hitting at all regardless before I invest in all the electric pump stuff. Quote Link to comment

Think i should just say fuck it and go with an electric pump? i dont see why a brand new mechanical fuel pump wouldnt work without the spacer but hey, you guys are the experts. Quote Link to comment

theatriks
As luck would have it I found a rear bumper in good shape in my local scarp yard ....never would have a thought there was a dying datsun there.....as for the 2.6 I'm trying to figure out what my options are to max out the horsepower naturally without turbo ... Ascendashogun
So today we got all the bolts for the fuel pump and that set up. Made 100% sure it was on the lobe...began cranking...It starts cranking fast and hard and just gradually slows down until theres nothing. on top of that...its not pumping any damn fuel! :/ probably going to just convert to electric and quit battling it.
