lilb34n
I have passed by this car so many times, till now i decided to go see it. For my surprise its a Datsun WPL Wagon 1966. I talked to the owner, she said that it was getting fixed, but the guy who was fixing it ended up leaving and her husband bought a truck and lost interest. Its been standing there for over 5 years.I dont want to get so excited, so im asking you guys for advice. On Monday i will go over and see if it runs and to check out the electrical work. What i know as for right now: it has a new paint job, to be out in the sun for over 5 years doesnt seem so bad, its got a new Carb, and the inside is a mess. She asked for 3Gran but told me how much i would offer her, but i said i would think about it.What do you guys think? Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
That does not appear to be an original steering wheel and is missing the horn button assembly. The fender is drilled for an antenna, but I cannot see if there is a radio installed in the interior photo. Not a biggie. You would need a glove box cover. I think you can find one on this site by putting a parts wanted in the classified. Ditto the ash tray. A trickier task would be to reupholster the dash. It has been done and diligent use of the search function on this site will lead to a how to that covers this task. No bumperettes on the front, probably missing on the rear also? Hard to find! I don't see any trace of a wrap around section of the rear bumper. Does it have one, including the license plate lamp assembly? Bottom line, $3000 would not be too hard to swallow IF the above items were taken care of. Estimate what your time and the cost of a parts wanted hunt purchase are worth to you. It's in excelent shape "for the shape that it's in." I would negotiate like hell and buy it but I don't need [need? what difference does that make?] another 411. Good luck! Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
"Zagros" has a PL411 sedan for sale in the classifieds for $800 and it has most of what you would need. Bad news, on the other end of the WEST COAST, BUT YOU CAN GET A GOOD FEEL FOR WHAT PARTS AVAILABILITY ARE LIKELY TO BE. Check out his posting. Maye you can work out a cooperative "my parts and your parts" deal with another bidder. Quote Link to comment
lilb34n
Ok, so the car starts up! But after it starts up and i press on the gas it dies. Before turning it on, i pump it some gas and it turns on... but just for a few seconds and it turns off again. I also found out that the rear bumper is not installed but its inside the car. The head lights don't work. I offered her 1.800 and she said yes. Daing... this car is going to take some work, even though the outside seems pretty much finished. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Shouldn't take much work. Maybe the choke isn't closing all the way. Probably something simple. Quote Link to comment
erichwaslike
ive seen this car somewhere before, i swear it was the oen from san diego or mexico. it had a real quick paint job done if i remember. but it could be a totally different car. do a lil more looking at it for evidence of rust under that new paint. could have just been bondo'd over.
