vin code length

I am familiar with 13 or 17 digit vin codes, but from what I'm seeing it looks like my 75 has only an 11 digit code. Does this sound right?

VIN came from 1981 and up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_Identification_Number

Before that manufacturers used there own numbering system.

 

PS: my 1973 Volvo used modern style VIN.

11 digits on a 75 could be right, could be wrong.  Depends on what it is.  For a '75 620 shortbed, it'd be right.  For a '75 710 Sedan, would be right.  For a B210, it'd be wrong.  They vary by model and chassis type- a B210 Hatchback would have 13 digits, for example.Entirely possible for the chassis serial number to be as small as 9 digits (maybe even shorter), though I don't think any in the US were that short.

Yeah mine is a fed spec 75 short bed. So it looks like 11 is correct. Thank you all.
