Markiewicz89
Well, my transmission seemed to have crapped on me. Needing a replacement or suggestions. I got a few questions before I continue my search. Maybe I can widen the search. Was curious if the 5 speed transmission 'HAS' to be a 60A (non-dogleg pattern) in order to fit. Or could the older non-conventional versions fit in a '79 Datsun 210/B310? I've noticed finding the 60A is quite difficult because of the amount of vehicles and people searching for the 'convential style shifting pattern. To me.... If my baby can move. I can adapt to dogleg pattern. Just don't want her sitting too long. It's already been over 2 weeks. :crying: Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The 210 came with two 60 series 5 speed transmissions, a 60L (dogleg pattern) up to '79 and a 60A (reg pattern ) after. The earlier B210 dogleg will also work. Quote Link to comment

Markiewicz89
Ebay doesn't seem to have anything except for a 4 speed manual transmission listed and nothing on Amazon. About to call a few salvage yards around my area, but considering my location.. probably won't have much luck with the salvage yards.. Never know though! I've already posted in the wanted section of Ratsun. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/54698-wtb-manual-transmission-for-79-210b310/ Does anyone have a few other websites to check out for finding a 5 speed manual transmission FS5W60A, FS5W60L or a FS5W63A? Markiewicz89
Hm... I wonder. Are rebuild kits hard to find for these transmissions? Quote Link to comment
Sierra
5 speed in inland empire CA. Not mine. http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/pts/3747889763.html Quote Link to comment
Markiewicz89
That in the average price range? Was guessing between 400-800. Depending on the shape it would be in. Just another's opinion on price ranges would be nice. Quote Link to comment
Markiewicz89
Yeah, found another one for 350 and another for 400. Prices seem to jump around. 350, 400, 739 and 1200. Geez... Quote Link to comment
Markiewicz89
The one for 400 includes crossmember, driveshaft, shifter, throwout bearing and fork. I'm assuming anything over 600 is steep on price. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The only thing special about them is they have been all snapped up by MG/Triumph (whatever) owners and this has A/ reduced the amount available for 210 owners and which has B/ driven the price up. Quote Link to comment

That's so sad. Has the prices been going up consistently? It seems if the seller knows this information about MG's and etc; the price is jacked up. The $739 and $1200 sellers mentioned the rivergate swap compatibility. Go figure. Quote Link to comment
Markiewicz89
Well, darn. Was considering the 4 speed today. Went to check ebay to see if it was still available. It wasn't. <_< Quote Link to comment
Markiewicz89
Ugh... *pulls hair* Anyone know where to find a rebuild kit for 60A 5speed manual transmission? Seems that might be the easier way to go rather than waiting around for someone willing to part with their transmissions. Quote Link to comment

j_boy_619
I would just say, 5 speed would be an awesome upgrade. I waited til I found a 5 speed. Only took like... 3 months haha. Now just need to get the rest of the parts together. Quote Link to comment
Markiewicz89
DATSUN B210 4 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION http://bit.ly/15AtkBw Thanks, Sierra. Appreciate the help. I would just say, 5 speed would be an awesome upgrade. I waited til I found a 5 speed. Only took like... 3 months haha. Now just need to get the rest of the parts together. I want a 5-speed badly and I agree it would be nice to have over the 4 speed. Although, I've read the 4 speed is actually stronger.. and the 5 speed difference is it has a bigger overdrive. So, it's the 4 speed can't be all that bad. Quote Link to comment
Sierra
How much highway deiving are you thinking of doing with your B210? If your answer is not so much then go with the 4 speed. Quote Link to comment

Yep, that's why I've considered the 4 speed into my search. Even if I were to drive on highway.. I don't mind people going around me. *snicker* Not saying the 4 speed can't go as fast as the 5 speed. That's not the case.. The 4 speed just has sad highway mpg due to the smaller overdrive. Quote Link to comment
B210GX
The 4 speed just has sad highway mpg due to the smaller overdrive. There is no overdrive in the 4 spds its a 1:1 ratio Quote Link to comment
Markiewicz89
Aw. You're right. I misread Tech Wiki. Tech Wiki was saying the 60A had a larger overdrive than the 60L. Thanks for correcting me. B) Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
True the A is 2.5% higher overdrive than the L. this would be a couple of MPH at 100 MPH... nothing really.. 1 Quote Link to comment
Markiewicz89
Well, I attained a F4W60 2 days ago. Swapped out my FS5W60A and now the driveshaft is too long. What would be the reasoning behind this? Do I have to get driveshaft from an earlier B210? Quote Link to comment
Markiewicz89
Can't find anything on forums.. =( Quote Link to comment
Markiewicz89
I was able to find a little bit of information via google. I can't recall the name of the forum I read it, but I removed the dust cover(shield) from the yoke. All is good now. B) Quote Link to comment
