Blocking the hoses would be the same as shutting the temp switch down to OFF. Will not hurt anything.

 

You may have a loose hose clamp but you may also have cracked or disturbed the solder connections by pulling the old hoses off. For what it's worth, always slit the hose lengthwise with a box cutter to remove them when replacing.

i would never not have the hoses going to my heater core because i like the option

of using that heater core as a second, emergency radiator if the heat ever climbs up.
