Tranny interchangeable?

There is a complete '81 210 on CL, in pretty rough shape for $400. Runs and drives but has some issues. Has nearly 250k miles on it.

 

I am in search of a 5-speed and this MIGHT have everything i need. If i understand correctly, this tranny should fit my '78 (automatic)????

 

If so, would it be smart to pull the tranny and take it to a local transmission guy for rehab?

The '81 (if it has the 5 speed) is a regular shift pattern with 1st above 2nd 60 series transmission. Yes you could have it rebuilt but it will cost.

This is from a '76-'78 B-210 and is a stronger 63A dogleg.

and is also larger in dia. so takes up more room, is heavier, and the gear ratios seemed different, but like i said before this is just my opinion

The 63A has a 3.382 first while the later 60 series 5 speeds have a 3.513 first

ok so i wasn't imagining it, it did feel different between the two

You sure weren't. The B-210 5 speed would be noticeable in town with all the starting from stops.
