Aulptraum
I have a new fan and fan clutch for my 620, the fan clutch that's on it has a lot of play in it, it wobbles a little and will spin freely. But the new clutch is a slightly larger diameter, and the fan that came off the truck has blades that fact opposite directions from the new ones. And additionally I don't know how to take the fan clutch off, because the bolts seem to be under the pulley for the belt. So, a) Which fan is correct? b) Which clutch is correct? And c) How do I replace the clutch anyway? Quote Link to comment
Aulptraum
I have pictures of everything but I don't know how to post them from my phone. Quote Link to comment
crackerjack69
The fan clutch is part of the water pump. Quote Link to comment
Aulptraum
So the part that the fan bolts onto is pressed into the pump and can't be replaced by itself? Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
correct, you need to replace the waterpump, fan clutch and pulley as one unit Quote Link to comment
Skib
correct, you need to replace the waterpump, fan clutch and pulley as one unit on a 620 anyway, there are other L motors that came with a separate water pump and clutch Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The clutch fan is pressed onto the water pump shaft. They are integral. If replacing, they both get replaced as a unit. The fan blades should not spin freely but be firm to turn by hand. Likely the silicone oil inside has leaked out. Someone here filled theirs with grease and it worked. I think it would be too thick. Engine oil would be closer to the same viscosity. In operation when cold the clutch slips and limits fan speed to about 1,600 rpms when hot and extra cooling needed it allows fan speeds of up to 2,100 rpms If the pump shaft is wobbling I think it time to get a new one. Is it leaking coolant? There is a vent hole on the under side of the water pump body.... is it wet or are there signs of past leakage? Look up from underneath Quote Link to comment
crackerjack69
Earlier 620's came without fan clutch, the fan ran constantly with the motor. Makes the water pump a helluva lot easier to replace :D Quote Link to comment
