620 Decade

I decided to start a build page on my 77 king cab

Reason for the name .

This truck has been sitting in a back yard for 10 years

Advertised on CL Thursday night, 7:20 am I was calling. Made arrangements to go see it and buy it.

I knew it didn't run, but for 600 bucks ? It was a no brainer. After I towed it home, it sat for one day, then I ripped out the mouse turd infested interior. I don't have pics of the before, but here is the after

Here is the worst of it, but it is solid, just mostly surface rust

This is typical for a sun beaten arizona car. I saw on ebay there are places that sell new dash caps

Check out the old heathkit gauge

I have a little work to do here, but again, nothing is rusted through

Engine compartment looks pretty good

Here is the problem that I can see. Does anyone know where you can get a complete engine harness?

If not I will spend time splicing it back together

Front clip is straight

Back needs some tlc, but it isn't rotted so I can deal with it

Now lets talk goals

First goal

Repair harness , marvel mystery oil the cylinders, clean fuel system, new oil and get it started . That way when I decided to tear it out, i can sell a running drive train

second goal is tear down.

body off frame clean paint and gusset/brace the frame. Sandblast body, make rolling chassis out of frame/ new motor. new suspension for the front, body work and paint truck. I have a line on new glass, rhino line bed and interior cab for sound deadening, recap dash or make one custom.

Sound deaden doors insulate, make new head liner and the rest '

more to come..

I totally feel your pain... I drew the wiring harness as best I could from what I saw, and then ripped it out and made a new one on my kitchen counter (mostly because it was hot outside, phoenix)...

With a little searching, you could find a simplified schematic and build that harness easily.

Or you could trade + cash for my 710 wagon haha (mostly kidding, i'm just burnt out on my Goon)...

I intend on using a harness from a 240sx for my truck. I would be willing to part with the harness that I removed from the truck if you cant find one local to you (such as in a junkyard).

Thanks for the reply

I haven't looked locally, but would offer you some $$ for your harness . Although, I would need to know your timeframe . I was hoping to start the process of getting it running, sooner than later. PM me with your asking price and ETA for pulling it and I can decide from there. I dread making one , but I can if need be.

I may as well talk about the rest of the project.

I want to get it running well , then drive it and see how she feels.

Here's where the fun begin

I happen to be a Toyota FJ Cruiser owner and have modified my truck to the hilt.

Back to the build

Along the way I managed to acquire a complete drive train from a rear end totaled FJ Cruiser 1GF-RE 4.0 V-6 with a 260/285 hp torque output. 5 speed auto trans, transfer case, all harnesses, shifters, gas pedal and computers. I was going to boost this motor and build the trans , then install it in my truck. The set up only has 26, 000 miles on it. I decide to buy a new truck, so I still have this in my garage.

With this set up in my 5000 # FJ , it moves along pretty good. With it in the 2000# datsun, it may be like a little hotrod. I will loose the transfer case and make it a street machine.

Lots of measuring to figure out how to make it fit is what is in order to make this happen, but it would be different and fast.

You're thoughts and opinions are welcome
