Questions regarding L16-L20 swap keeping 3 speed auto

Got the 2L pulled from the wagon, poor wagon :(

Got it on the engine stand. Using the A87 head out of the truck so I pulled the head off. Motor was freshly rebuilt prior to being mounted in the wagon, that's why the pistons are so clean

L16 divorced from the truck.

Now I knew the truck had an A87 head on it, but I got a nice surprise when I pulled it off.

Gonna clean the engine bay and switch some parts over. Hopefully I can get the engine in next Wednesday

A87 heads came on L16 and L14. Including JDM L16s with closed chambers.

Could be I don't know. But an A-87 will drop the L16's compression to 8.21.... this is why a flattop piston was used in conjunction with the closed chamber heads..

It's got big valves and big ports, I'll measure when I get home to verify the size. I doubt the PO got a full JDM L16. Are there markings on the block that would distinguish a JDM block from a domestic block?

"A87 open or closed found on many L-18 and L-20B's. The "domestic" version usually came with open chambers. Many of the "used Japanese import" engines came with the peanut version of this head. Large quantities of these used engines were imported in the 80's, so the peanut version is fairly common. These heads usually have 1.25" intake ports and square exhaust ports. 1.65" intake valves. Exhaust valves can be 1.38" or 1.30" W53 closed (with some exceptions) This head is from the Japanese market. "
