project620
What kind of driveshaft will i need to get??? or does the oringal one work just fine??? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The tranny spline will match your drive shaft but if you are using the FS5W71C tranny that came with that motor it a couple of inches longer and you may have to shorten it slightly. You may be able to mount everything slightly forward and cut the clutch fan off and run a pusher electric fan?? Icehouse runs a KA ask him what he did. Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
Well I'm a cheap cheap bastard so I used the zx tranny with the nap z bell so I wouldn't have to make a custom crossmember bracket, Mod the tunnel or shorten the DL. the DL splines are the same though, all you would have to do is have it shortened to the correct length. So to answer your question the stock one will work, it will need to be shortened though. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
OOps that's right you swapped the front case. Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
Turns out I could have just used a nap z tranny and had to high 5th.... I didn't pull the bell off a nap z tranny anyways, it was a bell a friend had laying around. I got the zx tranny from skip, now all I need is higher rear gears and it will be even better on fuel. datzenmike
The Z20 'High Mileage Option' used on the mid '80 720 was an H-190 3.365 or near there. Quote Link to comment
nismopu
I shortened the driveshaft on my old KA swapped 620 but I dont remember if it was 3 or 4 inches. I ended up doing it twice because I measured incorrectly the first time. Anyway, I did it myself and it wasnt really that hard. peace. Quote Link to comment

nismopu
yes, i took it apart. chucked it up into a lathe and turned down the weld. Then I pulled the spindle out with the splines on it, which was the carrier bearing side I believe. I cut the tube the necessary lenght, again I did this twice so I dont remember the exact length I removed. Remember though before you seperate the pieces to mark how the pieces were indexed before welding it back together, to keep it as close to balance as possible. I had mine on the freeway several times with no noticable vibrations. Another thing I did was I slotted the factory tranny crossmember because the 240sx tranny mount ends up being about a 1/4 further back than the factory L-series mount. You will also need to slot the mount itself but I have access to a mill and a lathe. So this stuff is easy for me to do and you just have to factor how much work you wanna do. I personally loved where the 240 tranny shifter was and I felt it was matched to the truck fairly well. peace. Quote Link to comment
