complete rebuild but found out that 1.8 head doesnt work on 2.0 liter block , should of known just fixed it reacently

Not true. Just slightly smaller exhaust valves and intake ports.

 

I have a L18 head (W53) on my L20B and it runs great. Better low end torque. Might not be good at high (5500+) RPMs, but I never go there anyway.

 

The pic shows what looks like an early L16 head.

 

The bigger issue is the '78-80 exhaust manifold won't seal properly to an earlier head due to port shape. But the pic shows an L18 exhaust manifold.

L18 head should work just fine on an L20b. :confused:

in the pics that is L18 head, couldnt get the timing right when i put a L20 on it runs awesome now. Starts awesome runs awesome and gas mileage is much better. with that L18 head there was no power and warming it up was a challenge wouldnt idle unless it was warm, how long have you had the L18 on the L20? Mine got progressivly worse over a year

Something was wrong with the L-18 head.No difference between them except valve,port & runner size
