On the hunt for a 620.

Thought I'd start a thread about my hunt for a truck. I'm basically looking for a daily driver to replace a 95 Nissan Quest which is for sale. The Quest is a good van, but I don't have a family, so don't really need a van, and it's got no soul. It's a very dull appliance vehicle, and I like vehicles with soul. I had a 91 D21 pickup with 418000km on it, and that truck had soul! Really wish I never sold it, but I want a 620 to replace it. Plus, I like having a truck around to haul my motorcycle when it either breaks down, or to track days.

I've been scouring CL from BC to Oregon, and even looking into California. Seems to be a number of these trucks for sale in Washington, which is handy. But not as handy as the long box 75 that I found, less than 5 minutes from home! We'll call this candidate number 1.

I stuck my head under it the other day, and the first words out of my mouth were "Wow, it's not completely fucked!". Frame looked great, and the body appears to only have rust on the driver's side rocker panel, and some surface rust on the driver's side floor pan, from water sitting under the rubber mat. Original paint is heavily oxidised, dent in the passenger side fender, but it's an amazingly complete, honest, original truck. I didn't note the mileage, as that's irrelevant on a vehicle this old anyway.

Anyway, here's the pics. It's sitting at a local shop, but it belongs to a customer who dropped it off there some time ago. Shop owner is trying to track him down and see if he wants to sell it. I'm crossing my fingers!

When I do find a 620, be it this one, or another one, the plans are to get it up and running, get it safe, then some lowering, disc brakes, decent wheels and rubber, try to make it as shiny and dent free as I can on very little budget, and then just slowly clean it up and maintain it. Longer term plans would be a KA swap. Nothing crazy, just a solid, fun, sorted daily driver.

Nice. Is that dash crack free?

Memory tells me that it has 1 or 2 very small cracks, but nothing major. When I went to look at it, I was so concerned with checking for rust, that I didn't spend much time looking at all the details. Hopefully I'll go back and check it out closer this week. When it's not pissing down rain!

OK, still trying to track down the contact info for the owner of the orange 620. In the meantime, THIS has bubbled up to the surface. It's for sale less than 15 minutes from home.

1969 Nissan Patrol. Runs, shifts, 4 wheel drive works, but it has no brakes. 4.0L I6 engine, 12V electrical, etc. Pretty cool old truck. Owner says it has rust. Repairable, but rusty. I'm going to go look at it. Am I nuts?
