deathrace2000
I am in need of at least one Z20 rod and at least one Z22 rod. I need them to test out some junk. So, if you've got a lone rod or two that I can take off of your hands for cheap, great! *I just found out that the early, shorter Z22 rods are the same as the L20B. So, I'd like to find one of those as well. Link to comment
Jester
Which Z22 rod do you want? Z22S or Z22E? Link to comment
deathrace2000
Either one really. Weren't they the same rod for a while? Link to comment
Jester
No, the Z22S and the Z22E through 12/81 was 145.9. After 12/81 the rods for the Z22E were 149.5mm. This change can make a big difference in compression when planning an engine build. Link to comment
EricJB
The short ones are the same as the L20. Link to comment
deathrace2000
Interesting. Thanks for the heads up. Link to comment
troyt
"Test"??? I've got some bad L20b/early Z22e rods (same short rod) from a cooked race engine somewhere... Are these going in a running engine or just a mock-up? Link to comment
deathrace2000
Just a mock up, so they don't have to be perfect. Link to comment
juno2109
i want to put sr20de pistons in a l20,which rod i need? Link to comment
datzenmike
Need to know the pin height... that's the distance from the center of the piston pin to the top surface of the piston. For example the L series are all 38mm. Link to comment
juno2109
top to center of wrist pin hole=32mm Link to comment
datzenmike
The absolut longest rod you can use would be 152.35mm. This includes the .3 mm above the deck allowance. The closest rod to this is the 152.5mm from a Z20E. I would have .5mm milled off the tops of the SR pistons and this should work. Working from memory here and will check this when I get home. juno2109
SR20DE pistons + z20E rods fits in l20! ok! thanks! Link to comment
datzenmike
The distance from the center of the crank to the top of the block is 227.45 on an L20B so this plus about 0.3mm more (227.8mm) is as close to the head as you would want to get. 43mm (one half the stroke) +32mm piston pin height +152.5mm Z20E rod length +227.5mm Can't get more perfect than that. The piston rises 0.05mm above the block surface, well below the 0.3mm limit that allows for rod stretch at high RPMs without hitting the head surface. Do the SR pistons have a dish in the tops or are they flat? Link to comment
juno2109
sorry, they have a dish in the tops Link to comment
datzenmike
Flattops would give 9.8 compression. Stock 11.3cc dish volume L20B pistons give 8.4 compression. Link to comment
datzenmike
No I don't think so. L20B block/crank/Z20E rods/SR20 pistons= fit. BTW I found a reference to the SR20 piston pin height as 31.74mm so still good. Link to comment
