Busta Nut
Hey everyone! New to Ratsun. Putting my prelude together before I start my 510 project again. Just doing a basic in car rebuild on my fun commuter. Nothin' fancy. Thought I'd share the fun. Cleaned up the block. It was Naaasty! Pulled the pistons out to change the rings. Had to grind down a couple pocket screwdrivers to make some cleaning tools. Quick dunk in the solvent tank aaaaaand.....voila! Condom wrapper ring set Rings Installed Before and After 9 Quote Link to comment
DAT510
Seems like you've done this before  did the solvent erase the marks you made to indicate piston and direction? Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
Seems like you've done this before  did the solvent erase the marks you made to indicate piston and direction? It faded it a little, but I kept track. Quote Link to comment
DRIVEN
Looks like you're on your way. A trick someone taught me was to break one or the old rings in half and use the gap end as a carbon scraper for the grooves. Already the right width and has nice square edges. 1 Quote Link to comment

Busta Nut
So much for slow days at the shop. Shop's been busy and gotta keep the Z going for Canby, so not much time for the Lude. Baby steps... Piston spring compressor Tightened it around the top of the piston and marked it. Soak the ring and cylinder walls with oil Old school engine assembly lube mix. White grease and engine oil. Coat the bearings Make sure the rings are NOT like this. They should be on opposing sides. Install spring compressor Used a hammer to push the piston in. A little more than 1/16" off each side. .....and now that the bracket fits....the bolt holes don't line up.....of course. ...more grinding....and everything fits! Quote Link to comment
