720 gear ratio differences

does anyone know if theres a difference in gear ratios between a 1976 and 1985 5 speed tranny for a 720?

try google. i found a website once that had all the specs of each gear and everything about the trans. ill see if i can find it again. I know the 82 5 speed ratios.... don't know if that will help.

this is something that i found... im #3 and its an 82 KC 4x4 Z22

 

 

Special Note#1There was a 5 speed 720 truck('79-'85)transmission that will bolt into an L-6 car, that also has "lower" gearing. However, there were two other sets of different gear ratios available, depending on the truck model:

All '80 2 and 4x4 and all other year 4x4 and diesels had the 3.592 first gear and others. (wide ratio)

 

All '81 and up 2wd had the 3.321 first, and others (close ratio)

 

Only the '80 transmission would possibly fit the L6 car all others are for a Z series or SD (diesel) motor. Two wheel drive would be best as they have speedometer drives, the 4x4 do not.s
