WORM BEARING?? where to get???

hey guys i have a 78 620 and i just need one worm bearing thats inside the steering box...where can i get one of these??? ive tried nissan but its a special order..is there anywhere else? ive looked online but cant find anything and ive tried ebay...nothing, anything will help thannks!

"Worm bearing" is not a single part, it is a race and a zillion ball bearings, and requires special expertise to replace. If you steering gear needs one, it is probably worn out. Much better to swap in a different steering gear that works OK, than try to fix yours. Or you could send the gear box to a specialty rebuilder.

Stef, did you just put new ball bearings in it? The factory service manual makes it sound very difficult. If we can rebuild them ourselves, that's a big plus.

Yes i just needed to replace the bearings, its not hard its 1970s technology

If it's the bearings that support the worm gear 48025-71200. About $30 each at dealer) you need two. Try cross referencing for another make.

Oh i get it now. Yare talking about the regular worm shaft bearings, not the individual ball bearings. I was thinking about the worm and roller ball bearing thingies.

Just take the bearings to an industrial bearing distb., they'll match them up. Most of the ball bearings in the early cars are off the shelf items in industry.

My ball nuts dropped once. Made the mistake of taking my 620 box apart. When I turned the wheel, the worm unscrewed forward and popped the plug out of the front. Lost all the oil, and shit fell out.
