DaTsUn72WaG
i just finished putting my L16 back together after a head and gasket change, but now, my oil is leaking terribly. i would have to put about a cup of oil in everytime i get into my car to go anywhere. it looks to be leaking around the front of the engine above the oil pump but i cant tell for sure. any suggestions? datzenmike
Did you remove the timing cover? If not the paper gasket between the oil pump and the timing cover is bad/missing or the timing cover front crank seal is bad. Both are easy to replace. Clean the area and spray down with brake cleaner. Run engine briefly and look to see where it's leaking first. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
I must be on a emission kick today. Is the PCV system working? On a good engine, the crankcase is at a slight vacuum whrn the engine is running. This will help keep oil in the engine. if you disconnect the PCV valve, or it quits working, the crancase ir under pressure, and that blows oil out of the engine. Make sure the oil pump mating surface is clean. Oil could leak there also. Quote Link to comment
