blasta510
I picked up this truck last night off of craigslist for $200. CONVERTABLE!!! Well it has the z24. The tranny only has 5th and reverse. The engine runs well and i plan to swap it into my 510. Should I find another z tranny or can i use the 4 speed with the z bellhousing? Has anyone done this swap before? And can i adapt my weber 32/36 from my 510 to the z24? My plans are to take the engine. then scrap the truck? Quote Link to comment
b210in
man, they did a real number on that truck, convertable and everything, did you really pay 200 bucks for it? it think you might have been taken for a ride. i take it that the engine is in really good shape. Quote Link to comment
Bleach
The l-series 4 or 5-speed tranny should bolt up to the Z24 bellhousing. Then you can use your tranny gears with the engine you just bought. Maybe you can sell the wheels and seats and get $100 back. Quote Link to comment
blasta510
Ya thats my plan. Take the engine and other good parts. Then sell the wheels. And scrap the rest. Pretty much the whole interior is gone. But is has a light up walmart shift knob! O and they it has a picket fence bed!! The seats are dry cracked in the vinal centers because of the "convertable". It has one good tire ;) It has spray painted flaims But the engine runs good. And it has a tachometer. Most of the body panels are only held on by 1 bolt. Hood is just held on my the latch. O and their was an umbrella behind the seat just in case it rained. I have a a87 peanut head, l20 electronic dist, and the webber off of my 510? Can i use these on this engine? Quote Link to comment
datsunfish
A l/z24 is complicated.I know some use the stock front timing cover with a l head but that is not a direct match. What is best is a custom modified l20b timing cover. The a87 peanut will likely be a bit high in compression for a 2.4.I have a z24 also that I want to put in my 510 but I will use a u67 head. Its going to be a bit of a project.Get another naps tranny or swap the bell if you can.If its a carburetted naps motor the carb bolt pattern will match for the weber adapter. Quote Link to comment
blasta510
Has anyone here built a l/z24 before? Also does anyone know of a link of a z24 swap into the 510 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The Z24 has a different carb bolt pattern than the L16. The Weber may fit on without the adapter though, I'm not sure that the the 4 spd will fit the 5 speed L or Z front case with the bell. I think you need a 5 speed to fit a 5 speed. I seem to remember Doug saying it wouldn't, but I could be wrong. Doug? Don't use a P-nut head. The compression is just under 10 to 1. Quote Link to comment

datsunaholic
The 4-speed and 5-speed front cases aren't compatible. Quote Link to comment

HG mods needs, not that complicated connected to a dogleg 5spd w/o mods i do have a clearance dent in the hood though  Quote Link to comment
