Jacobszabo
i cant for the life of me figure out whats wrong with it..we got it to run when its not in gear and it revs up fine and stuff but when its in gear and you slowly depress the clutch it loses all power and cant rev up therefor he can go anywhere it just wants to die...any ideas on what it could be? thanks Quote Link to comment
Bleach
so right as you push the clutch pedal down it will slow the engine down and kill it? Sounds like your clutch refuses to disengauge and since the car is in a gear and stopped it kills the engine. pump the clutch pedal then try again another option: Make sure the parking brake is on good and nobody is in front of the car. With the engine off, put the car in 4th gear. Pump the clutch pedal and then hold it down to the floor. turn the engine on with only slight depression on the gas pedal. That should pop the disc apart and you can now shift through the gears. Quote Link to comment
Jacobszabo
no i said that wrong...just when you go to drive it it wont go anywhere but when the clutch is pushed in then it will rev fine and normal like it has no power if its in gear and this just happened randomly he shut it off and then turned it on and it was running like this Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Punctuation, it's not just for English class.... I still can't figure out what you are trying to say. Sounds like it's stuck in gear with the e-brake on. Maybe the brakes are locked up... Quote Link to comment
Jacobszabo
okay, i tried what bleach told me to do. However, the car is still doing the same thing. When the car is running i can push the clutch in and shift into every gear. Im pretty sure the brakes arent locked up because i can push it. Maybe i will try a different tranny just to make sure it is the tranny or not. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Do you get the same problem in nuetral when you let off the clutch? Quote Link to comment
Jacobszabo
when the car is in neutral, it will run fine without pushing the clutch in Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Sounds like a broken tranny. :( Quote Link to comment
AtomChurch
i say just scrap it. i have a L16 and a 4 speed we can throw in there. then he can at least stay in my rear view mirror when we race. Quote Link to comment
Bleach
ya. Makes sense that the tranny might be seized up. An idea: put the back end up on jack stands. (RWD?) See if you can drive it like that and spin the tires in the air. If not, then the tranny is certainly to blame. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Try to take off in each gear, one at a time including reverse. Does it back up. My old '57 muncie jammed in reverse, all forward gears would 'fight' against it and the car wouldn't go forward, but reverse was fine. Garth and I backed 14 mikes home. Quote Link to comment
AtomChurch
I checked out the car, and when we lifted it up and ran it through all the gears it makes a grinding noise inside the tranny like its peeling out in gravel. He probably just chipped a tooth on one of the gears and thats jamming or something inside. I say lets just see if my 78 cross member is a bolt on fit for the L16 in his car. not much better then the a-14 but still better. Quote Link to comment
