Lee R
Picked up this 74 620 and just started the basics like changing all fluids, adjusting brakes, etc... Body is pretty straight with some waves here and there and some surface rust. Floor pans intact...no holes eaten through anywhere. Wheels look to be older American Racing but not sure. Only real "dent" on the truck. Lowered about 4 inches??? I have not measured it yet as I am going to bring it down more. :) My new shift knob and Grant steering wheel. Weber carb, electric fan, A87 head, MSD ignition.... Disc brakes in the front. Motor mounts are ok. Changed the plugs out, the PO's ones didn't look to bad.... Drained the oil and it was on the dark side but was free of any metal bits and was only about 1/4 quart low. :) The bad news was with the transmission fluid. It came out smokey and semi metallic with this........ It has been running perfectly fine. every gear is smooth, not rough. No grinding or whining or anything else. Also found this good sized little sucker in the drain pan. ...also found this small piece of rubber (left in pic) in the drain pan....???? Anyway....put in the Valvoline 80w-90 gl4 and drove it into work 16 miles through a twisty canyon road and it runs perfect shifting excellent. Still need to change the diff fluid. It has an aftermarket oil pressure and water temp gauge which I'm sure are off. Temp goes up to 260/280 when running and the oil pressure is at about 20psi. The in dash water temp needle is straight up 50/50 when warmed and driving. Needs to be timed and carb adjusted but the tach doesn't work as it bounces around when shifting and slowing down. Redline seems to be 3,500 so I need to figure this out....help...suggestions...encouragement? 1 Quote Link to comment
izzo
those little chunks not good, the finer shits normal that thing would clean up real well under the engine bay with some elbow grease. disc brake brackets are f'ing scary. Cool truck man! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
This is either a piece of valve seal, (least likely) or a piece of chain guide. (more likely) Get NGK plugs. Quote Link to comment
