kid510
hey guys, having trouble getting the tie rod end back on the center link. Please view the picture below: I tried tightening the bolt (circled in red on left) to no avail. The shaft circled in red on the right keeps spinning in place. Is there some sort of trick to this? Tried BFHing it, no luck. If so, please share! Thanks guys. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
First off, put a boot on that tie-rod end. I use a pry bar to put pressure on the end pushing it into the hole, this usually will keep it from spinning while tightening the nut. Quote Link to comment

Except when these guys hit the threads with a hammer to get them apart. Oh, and get a boot on that tie rod first. Quote Link to comment
kid510
I've tried putting pressure on the end, to no avail. I would put a boot on it, but the one I had is toast. Just need to get it to my friend's house so we can put new tie rod ends on. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
So you took this tie rod off for some reason. Now it needs to go back on to go somewhere else to have it taken off. Um...why not just fix it where it sits? Bring your friend, or the parts your way? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Lightly tap it into the tapered hole. Then you can tighten the nut without the ball-end spinning. Unless the threads are messed up, this will work. And put a boot on it. Why are the boots so expensive? Quote Link to comment

kid510
Can you buy the boots singularly from anywhere that's not online? My friend owns a garage, hence why I am bringing it to him. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
The are a couple bucks in the help section in most parts stores. If you have new tie rods and are crawling around under there already, just put the new ones on. Then go get an alignment done :P Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
new tie-rod ends will have a new boot. You don't need to put a boot on the old on unless you plan to keep using it. It'll last for months w/o the boot. 48522-21000/48522-W1401 Dust Cover $9.90 USD each from Nissan. Not cheap. Quote Link to comment
kid510
Woot! You guys rules, I put my tie rod puller in between the tie rods and used my jack to get an extra bit of force on there, and the nut went right on! I DID go to Autozone last night and get a boot. Thanks for all of your suggestions, Ratsun rules. Quote Link to comment
