Topher88
It hasnt done this before but all of the sudden my car started acting funny/ i have an electric fuel pump along with electric voltage gauge and temp gauge. all 3 of them seem to work on and off when im driving down the road. the video shows that. Where should i start trouble shooting first? im going to go to all my grounds and tighten and make sure there is good contact. Do you think a ground is my problem? when those three are not working i can still start my car. i recently took out my entire dash about a month ago but it hasn't started doing this till last week. 1 Quote Link to comment
Wide14u
the ground sounds right Quote Link to comment
yello620
Grounds are the first place to look, but it could certainly be that the three things are all powered from the same circuit. Which could be a bad wire/connection/fuse in the positive side of things. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Looks like Volts and Temp intermittent. Has to be a common +12 supply or ground. Quote Link to comment
Topher88
Thanks guys. I'm sanding down all my ground points now to see if that's the culprit Quote Link to comment
Topher88
we i figured out it was the fuse that the guy hooked up between those three things. But now my volt gauge reads 11V constantly is that alright? whats the lowest it should go? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Around 12.3-12.8 not running and over 14 running Quote Link to comment
Topher88
ya the gauge says under 10 running and driving... i wonder if my alt is working properly or if the gauge is wrong. it started off at a constant 12 and slowly went down to lower then 10 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Your alternator is not charging, perhaps due to a wiring (mis-wiring) problem. The Dash has a ground point, if you don't put it back the same way, it can have problems. And consider that the alternator works via the dash lamp (CHG or IGN lamp). So there could be a relationship there. Quote Link to comment
Topher88
when i took out my dash i painted all the fire wall and where the dash and the body meet. should i take that and sand it down for a better connection? that has been on my mind that that could maybe be why? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Possibly. On my datsun, the metal dash frame grounds through the screws at the side, and the gauge cluster grounds through one large screw to the dash frame. Quote Link to comment
