banzai510(hainz)
IMPORTANT Why you change the coil in the first place? Bling? if it was OK before then: Find that coil you had before I bet this was EI coil. accel coil is not made to run on 12/14 volt,Thats the proplem. Put matchbox back on and the other coil you had in there and it will fix it. Quote Link to comment
ricky
Coil is in the trash along time ago so I'll pick one up for 200sx today. And try that. Is it possible I burned up my matchbox? Before datsun I was into old American cars the bigger coil ment bigger spark wheich made them run better. So I assumed datsuns would be the same never new you could burn up a dizzy Quote Link to comment
ricky
The car ran good for a few months. But I was getting this weird hesitation at steady speeds like somthing was cutting out. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
old American cars the bigger coil ment bigger spark ?? thats old thinking. new coils are small. The chevy ones fit inside the distributor cap. Most is filled with oil and insulation to appear to be big. I put the SUPERCOIL on ,the BIG one and I couldnd tell the difference. I think the weight gain took the extra power!!!!!!!!!! The Matchbox was working for months. Well could just be a bad ground on the Matchbox. valve lash timming or other stuff. The Accell superstock is not better than a stock 510 coil. Just look cooler as they come in chrome or yellow. I have had them aalso and run them with the ballast resisitor. I wont buy them now as I seen they are made in China. I just try not to buy China. Trade Deficet is too big! ground the matchbox good ,and do the TDC thing so youll have the rtor pointing on number # 1 plug where its supposed to Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
So I assumed datsuns would be the same never new you could burn up a dizzy well you can burn up a Pertronix.read carefully http://www.pertronix.com/support/manuals/pdf/ignitor12vneg.pdf Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
So I assumed datsuns would be the same never new you could burn up a dizzy well you can burn up a Pertronix.read carefully says do not run HEI coils http://www.pertronix.com/support/manuals/pdf/ignitor12vneg.pdf Quote Link to comment
ricky
I mean bigger as output not size Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I mean bigger as output not size ???? I knew what you ment! Like have big guns but got little weiner. Dogs that Bark ,dont bite outside their fence Put the Matchbox IN with a 79 200sx coil(NO ballast resistor) and that should fix it.Just going buy what you said. Of coarse Im just Arm chair trouble shooting. also the staement about american cars. YOu could get away with the wrong coil more as you have 8 cylinders plus alot of those old cars might have a resisitive wire instead of a ballast resisitor in series with the circut Quote Link to comment
ricky
Ok let me try to swap dixzys and coil and check ground and wires. Thanks for the help I'll let you know how it works Quote Link to comment
ricky
I need l20b pedastool for distributor any one got this that is local Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I thought you ran the matchbox before? just for shits and grins mount it on top of the other pedastal and get it to TDC. hold with your hand or your old lady. start car up if runs then you know its good. or get a small C clamp to hold the timming plate down to the other dizzy mount and run it like that till you get a correct mount. NWOleman
could it possible be a fuel issue? maybe some shit in the tank? plugging up the fuel filter or not getting enough fuel under load cause of restricted line? Quote Link to comment
ricky
Yep it runs real good just can't lock down dizzy Quote Link to comment
ricky
I ran the matchbox on a l16. Not l20 the l20 came with pertronix. I swapped coil for a stock one cut some old wires out and put freshones in and now it runs Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
there was 2 types of Matchboxes so there could be 2 pedastals. The common one is the same as the points. The other the tang is almost 90 degs. if this fixes it dont be changeing stuff anymore that dont need to be changed Quote Link to comment
ricky
Lol nope I won't my car runs great I need to adjust timing a little more cuz there car runs a little after shutting off. I actully made a plate to use the ponts pedestal out off billet aluminum I will post pictures later just invade some one needs one Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
L20s with a open chamber head with Weber DGVs mostl likely will deisel. Cant really fix it unless you have the DGV that will fit a idle cut off selinoid. the stock L20s and later Datsun the stock carbs have a 12volt wire that opens the idle jet. Most webers are swapped in later and they dont come with the 32/36 unless you order the 32/36DGEV-IC Quote Link to comment
ricky
Is there a way to tell if head is open or closed with out pulling it off motor. It is a a87. And from what I read on ratsun is that they came in both. But only way I know to check is look atthe bottom where the valves are Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
yes thats the only way is to remove head. I wouldnt worry about it. My 521 has a U67 and it desiels everyday Quote Link to comment
ricky
Ok sounds good I'll just get the timing to where it is running the best. Quote Link to comment
ricky
so here is how i made my dizzy work first i started with these 3 things then there was lots of measuring, trying to predict the path of a curve was difficult once the program was made i ended up with this now that we know it works we are working on making it look nicer and remove any unnecessary metal Quote Link to comment
ricky
it looks similer to the points one but the distance and angles are diffrent which allows for full adjustment using a l16 points pedestal and matchbox carb. i dunno how many people end up with that combo but if any one needs one i could have another made in about 20 min Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
alot more people than you think end up with that combo. was this matchbox in a running car that you owned? if so where is the pedastal? Unless you had this Matchbox in a pile of parts or something . As for the deiseling try the expensive highest octane you can find. In wash here its mostly 91. Oh by the way it look good the plate. I would think you could make a generic 4 sided type to work on both the l16 and L 20. Use 2 sides as your doing then make the other 2 side for a L20 also make the slots just a little bit longer Quote Link to comment
ricky
The match box wasoff l16 the pedestal for that one was even further off. We are going to try and make one that allows for 360 degrees of adjust ment and if I can get ahold of some other common dizzys and mounts we would attemp a universal one. Quote Link to comment
