A 87 head

SO im pretty new to cars here. I've always liked cars just never really done any work on em blah blah blah. My question is what exactly is an A87 head. I mean what car did it come off of or manufacturer do they come from are they in various sizes just basic information i need to know about them please?

They are not all closed. Most, probably all N Am L18s and early L20B had them but with open combustion chambers. I have one on my 710 L18 and I doubt it's closed.It has large intake valves and is similar to the U-67 head.

:) It happens. The closed chamber is somewhat rare but not overly. The ones we see were likely bolted to import motors from Japan. Back in the '80s when many L18 were needing a good rebuild, it was cheaper to buy and install a low mileage import motor. The Japs kept all the good stuff for themselves like closed chamber heads and dual SU's on the L18s.
