Hitch mod for CRV

My bro came down....he'd ordered a hitch for his wife's CRV and because of the beauty bar, it just didn't fit right. So, he mocked it up and brought it down. We modified it a bit :) He's only going to be using is for a bike rack. You'd think the manufacture would have said it wouldn't fit with the bar. he didn't like them either....just kinda got caught up in trying to make it work. As soon as I told him I was home saturday.....he hoped in the CRV and drove down from Marysville to work on it. Sure wish he lived closer!! :)

How thick is the metal in the spare tire well? Even though it is attached much better than it was, it still looks to me it is just bolted on to some sheet metal.

you could add a little strength by sandwiching the sheet metal from the other side -  Reaching out to hte framerails would be even better for strength...

I almost ignored the notification.....I was like...."who the heck is posting about a CRV?!"  lol   Glad I looked.  I didn't take pics, but we did put plates and washers on the inside.  His psycho ex has that car now.

That is suitable for towing a bicycle rack or garden tub. For towing a small trailer they usually reinforce the rear-most mounts (just simple sheet metal doubling).
