dat77sun
hey there ratsun, im planning to do a tranny swap on my 1977 datsun 620 kc, it has a 4 spd in it now, i want to put the 5 spd i got with the truck in it. i have a few questions though, will the 4 spd clutch and flywheel work with the 5 spd? how long would this swap take? and how hard is this swap? justin 620
You use the clutch, flywheel, and throw out bearing from your truck. Is the tranni from a 73.5 +? if so, it's not too hard. Just jack the truck up, drain the tranni, un-bolt the carrier bearing, pull the drive-line out (I always unbolt it from the rear end, but that's up to you) un-bolt the tranni from the cross member, unbolt the cross member from the frame, and the exhaust manifold from the down-pipe. Then un-bolt the slave cylinder, back-up light plugs, speedo cable, and starter. Then undo all the tranni bolts (3 to the block, and can't quite remember how many to the protector plate). Then, just do all this, in reverse for the 5 speed. Now, the back-up light switch is different for the 5 speed, but I never deal with those, so somebody else will have to help with that!
