Paul G.
I was wondering if there was any sort of guidance on the value of 411 PL and RL models as well as the older 410, wagons and sedans. I'm on the west coast, Seattle, I know value is effected by area. Clearly value is affected by condition and that is always the hardest part to define for anything less than perfect. MikeRL411
Value is in the eyes of the beholder. The Blue Books don't even acknowledge the existence of Datsun models older than the 510. On 5 Nov 2008 "Troyintahoe" [wright3745@gmail.com] repoted selling his RL411 with original California Black Plates on the Los Angeles Craigs List for $3200 sight unseen within 24 hours of posting. AZhitman
And I bought that same car a month later, sight unseen, for $3500. It was a WRL411 SSS, by the way. I picked up a rough WRL4111 SSS for a buddy for $1200, and I've passed on a few rough ones that were a little higher-priced. Mine's almost completely restored now, and I don't think I'd let it go for less than $8K. Is that what it's "worth"? No. However, I have it insured on an "agreed value" policy with Hagerty for $10K. I didn't realize that your wagon was the same one I cited. You have done a real good job on it! Bottom line for all WRL411 and RL411 owners who have the misfortune to wreck; don't take insurance company token $500 offer! Thw carburettors alone are worth that, especially with the manifolds. Use these messages as your counter to the low ball. Real sales beat the adjuster's wild ass guess. Quote Link to comment
raceneely
Great question..... These unwanted step children of the 510 family...... According to what we have been spending down here lately : SSS models always start at 3000.00 I have bought the non SSS versions for between 800.00 ( thanks GCmustang!) and 1600.00 but I have seen them as high as 5000.00 It all depends on corrosion. Spedie
I purchased my Pl411 for $3000 a year ago. It's in pretty good shape and I've been driving it daily since then. I wouldn't let it go for anything less than that today. Quote Link to comment
AZhitman
Use these messages as your counter to the low ball. Real sales beat the adjuster's wild ass guess. Actually, if you're driving something that rare, and DON'T have an AGREED-VALUE policy (NOT stated-value), you've got a screw loose. I pay less to insure FIVE classic Datsuns with Hagerty than I pay for ONE modern car. :) Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
Another caution. If you have an accident with an RL411 or WRL411, the adjuster will take a cursory glance, note the "1600" emblem on the rear and not realize that that is the engine displacement. He will call in for repair parts and labor for a "Datsun 1600" of your model year and get all the "not availables" for the 1600 Roadster and graciously offer to scrap your vehicle. 67 411
I have had my wrl411 SSS listed from 4000 and now 3000 for about 2 months and have it almost sold twice but I still have it. Its hard to sell cars like these with the econmy the way it is. Quote Link to comment
Paul G.
I intend to get rid of my WPL411 this winter. To be honest, I'm still an aircooled VW guy inside. The Datsun 411 is so cool, but I find less willingness to put my limited resources into a driver that is a pain to get parts for. Anyway, the battery pack is a bit small, I can't really turn it up past about 60 horsepower, I recommend a bigger pack for normal cars, to enhance range and performance. I'll be shoving the pack in my beach buggy which will give it more power than VW ever installed in a Beetle (while hitting the streets at 1200 lb.) I'm not sure if it would be better to part out the old 411, or sell the rolling vehicle along with the parts I pulled as part of the conversion. I kept almost everything and most of it is pretty nice. It seems a shame to part it out because it sports the factory paint job and is rust free. I'm looking for recommendation and advice from the community. I live just north of Seattle, in Everett, since I know location could affect what would be the best decision. Thanks! AZhitman
Be sure to let the rest of us 411 guys know before you decide... After restoring mine, I don't know if I'd ever do another one, but it's such a cool car... Quote Link to comment
elmerfudpucker
So I guess you guys would like this one? http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/1967014223.html He has been posting it for nearly a year now. Quote Link to comment
Paul G.
No, that one looks like a rusty ugly pile. For 1/2 that I would stay up all night and have mine ready to go this weekend. Quote Link to comment
