electric choke

Does the electric choke in my 521 have constant power? Not sure how it works. Any help would be beneficial

late model 521 have a eleltric choke.

power should be on while key is ON. as elelment heats up it bends pushing the lever thats connected to the choke plate

Hainz is correct. Hey Mike if you need help adjusting the choke i can help, ive had to do the wagon a few times & it's easy.

There might be a relay also. Like for the 510 but I havent seen where min eis on my 521 as I dont use a choke on it.

I just pump the gas a couple times(38/38DGES)

Not positive on how it works on a 521, but on everything else, the Choke only gets power when the engine is running. The choke heater is powered by the relay, which in turn is powered only when the engine is running (not just with the key on). It is sensed via the alternator- so, the choke heater only works when the alternator is charging. This is done through the voltage regulator. When the alternator light is on, the choke is off.

 

The idea there was to keep the choke from heating up if you just turned on the key- the choke is supposed to heat up as the engine heats up.
