MSD-2 Ignition Coil on Stock L16 620 Distributor?

Just curious if i would be able to use it on stock distributor... found at at the junkyard for dirt cheap in almost brand new condition and would be a good replacement for the old beat-up one i have now.

 

Would i have to convert to Electronic Ignition?

yes... but until then maintain the stock ballast resistor.

MSDs come new with a replacement resistor for stock setups. Not sure what the ohms are but they can be used with points. You can use it without the resistor with an electronic matchbox dizzy but not with the pertronix conversion. At least your not supposed to but I know people who have and said it was fine.

So yes,you can use it with points if resisted.

Just use the stock coil!!!!!!!!!!!

 

If you want to use the MSD Balster 2 coil youll need to add about a .7 ohm resisitor in series with the stock ballast resisitor.

Not entirely, got it at the junkyard for 2 dollars, it was pretty much new.

$2 is fine and the only good reason for getting one. Can't see them being any better than stock just shiny. Stuff is always way better than stock if shiny or red. (and expensive)

 

The more shiny red stuff you have on your car the closer it is to rice. Maybe paint it black.
