East 620
Can someone confirm if this is correct or not? totally forgot how it go's... Had to share my 50 amp alternator (machined the plate with a drill bit and ancient drill press, local auto store luckily had a belt 1" longer. Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
If what you're asking is whether or not you installed the fan correctly or backwards, you have it installed correctly. Why the modified alternator bracket and longer belt? I missed the reasoning behind that one.. Quote Link to comment
East 620
YAY! Thank you, I didn't want to go get my freshly welded radiator, install it, and WTFINGFAN? Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
For future reference, in case you run into this problem again, if you look on the front of the fan, there's an "F" stamped into the plate that bolts to the water pump. You can see it pretty clearly in the 3rd picture that you've provided(at about the 3:30 o'clock position). Happy motoring! Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
looks like the org belt would have fit! did I miss something? Quote Link to comment
East 620
looks like the org belt would have fit! did I miss something? The original was too small. Had to add an inch to the plate and an inch longer belt. Once the belt starts to stretch out I have another half inch of adjustment. @MicroMachinery- I knew where the front was I just wasn't sure about the aluminum spacers. Thanks though. datsunaholic
I'm not sure what the aluminum spacers are; they aren't used on any stock application. Quote Link to comment
East 620
I'm not sure what the aluminum spacers are; they aren't used on any stock application. My dad, who's owned several 620's, says they usually don't have a fan clutch either. I love my frankentruck. Quote Link to comment
ppeters914
Dunno for sure, but I've always heard Fan Clutch = Fail. A matter of when, not if. Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
Fan clutches work fine when they work, and the OEM ones usually outlived the water pumps. There's nothing wrong with them and they improve fuel mileage. Generally they fail by getting stuck, so the fan turns at full velocity all the time, just like a non-clutch fan. I know that having a fan cluch saved my radiator when the water pump failed (the housing shattered) and the fan ended up in the radiator. Had it been a non-clutch fan it would have drilled right into the radiator. Had a couple bent vanes, but no holes in the radiator tubes. 620s had fan clutches stock from 1975-on. The L16 and L18 ones did not. Quote Link to comment
ppeters914
Thanks for clearing that up, Doug. Quote Link to comment

Roadracer Al
I notice that you don't have a fan shroud installed. Is that unusual? My '73 620 has a '78 L20b/5 speed swap, and does not have a fan shroud, which worries me about driving in hot weather. Given that the temp sender isn't hooked up either, I don't know if the motor is getting hot or not. Quote Link to comment

Open up your radiator and let the engine run and watch for water movement when the thermostat opens up. If it works good then you should be fine. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The Fan Shroud of Turin The Fan Shroud of Turin again surfaced as Jesus arose post crucifixition. It was found with other artifacts in the tomb where Jesus body lay for the three day period between Palm Friday and Easter Sunday. Whether you believe the Fan Shroud belongs in the old testament with Moses on his 411 or in the New Testament with Jesus and his 510 wagon, one thing is undeniable - the Fan Shroud is holy. We will add more information as biblical archeologists continue the search for evidence of the Fan Shroud protecting and guiding throughout the Bible. Below is "Christ The Redeemer" in Brazil. Praise Jesus. Praise the Fan Shroud of Turin that has kept us safe from overheating in traffic on hot summer days. Quote Link to comment
