69datsunman
I am planning on replacing my floorboard in my 1969 datsun 521 pickup because it is completely rusted through. Does anyone have ideas on how to replace it without spending hundreds of dollars? Quote Link to comment

datsunfish
Well,in minnesota your options are probably limited. Around here I would just get a different 521. Show us pics of the damage. If its flat sections you could just weld in new sheet metal. If you need a whole new floor then maybe someone could find you some and ship then you weld that in. That would be pricey. Lets check out the damage. Quote Link to comment

69datsunman
Wow it looks like that sheet metal idea could work well. i dont have any pictures to show of it because the carpet is still in but i pulled the seat right off the floorboard by hand and the bolts came all the way through. The previous owner made the floor out of the old topper and it was rusting pretty badly. Quote Link to comment
sick620
if you find the right person they will do it for 100 bucks if YOU dont know how to weld. Quote Link to comment
69datsunman
I do have access to sheet metal presses so i think i will go with the sheet metal idea Quote Link to comment
69datsunman
Does anyone know what gauge of sheet metal would work the best for a floor? And should i used galvanized or not? Quote Link to comment
denveratsun
NOT galvanized! POR15 or good paint...for sure! Ever got a Galvinized Headache? <_< Quote Link to comment
69datsunman
Ok thanks. I know that it would take a professional welder to weld in galvanized but i didnt know what kind of sheet metal worked best. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
Your professional welder probably would look at the galvanized, and say "no, thanks". Quote Link to comment
