dat521gatherer
willd@computersupplyusa.com> Subject: NBAD Virus Snopes Confirms as real.> Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2007 16:05:23 -0700>> Subject: NBAD Virus Snopes Confirms as real.> NBAD Virus--CNN announced--Snopes confirms as real.> Here is a link to the snopes page:> http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp> PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST!!> A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive ever. This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee . This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information for its functioning are stored.> This virus acts in the following manner:> It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the title:> 'You've received a Post Card from a Family member'.> As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened the computer freezes so that the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+ delkeys or the reset button are pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New York , according to news broadcast by CNN.> This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself.> So don't open any mails with subject: 'A Post Card from .' As soon as you get the mail, delete it !! Even if you know the sender !!!> Please pass this mail to all of your friends.> Forward this to everyone in your address book. I'm sure most people, like myself, would rather receive this notice 25 times than not at All> ________________________________> Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
It's a fake. Read the snopes article. Just because there's a link to snopes doesn't mean it's valid. The link given is for a real snopes article for a completely different virus (one that is considered low threat, but does attempt to install spyware. NOT boot-sector destruction. ). The email blends a real snopes link with a hoax virus warning. Here's the real snopes link: http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/virtualcard.asp Quote Link to comment

spiffinspudater
I have an Apple so I don't have to worry :D *sigh* the false sense of security... Good luck with that one. The only reason there are so many viri for Windows is because most of the worlds consumers use windows. If the mac following keeps picking up like it has been so will the viri released for it. Oh yeah, it will cost you 2x as much to have it removed because you will have to find someone that specializes in Mac OS. :fu: If you arent stupid you wont catch a virus I find it entertaining that he posted it the way he did. Almost looks like it is auto posted... OH, Yeah, stupid myspace people that get their passwords jacked... Stop being dumb with your password and you wont have a problem! Quote Link to comment
Thomas
I have an Apple so I don't have to worry :D While it's very likely OS X is more secure than Windows XP, nothing is bullet proof. Even if there's no obvious exploit, all it takes is tricking an admin into thinking s/he is installing something else. http://www.macworld.com/2007/10/firstlooks/trojanhorse/index.php http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20071031114140862 Quote Link to comment
