kaliboy96
Hey guys I have a 69 521 with a Turbo Z20 motor in it, I recently got installed the EI dizzy I bought off of ebay, I will be wiring it up tomorrow and have a MSD 6A Ignition, and Blaster Coil. I have read that it is not necessary to use both the E-1280 matchbox and the MSD together. So which is the better way to go? Do I leave just the Matchbox or the MSD or both? If I leave both how do I wire them up so I dont have any issues? I appreciate any help you might have! Quote Link to comment
hang_510
K.I.S.S. the 'matchbox' and the 6A perform the same function. stash the MSD box or give it to me :D Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
run the matchbox first. hopefully it has its mount also otherwise it might not be at TDC when its supposed to be (meaning the timming plate is off if you dont have the matching. as people just soemtime have the dizzy and not the mount.) if you want later to run the MSD go ahead but I find the m,atchbox more reliable and less wires in in the engine bay. kaliboy96
Got ya! Thanks for the info! I also am running an JDM Tachometer which wire do I run the tach signal line to? It normally has a spot on the MSD 6A so where does it connect if I dont run the MSD? Quote Link to comment
izzo
negative on the coil normally. Unless yours is a magnetic pickup which i doubt. double check with your tach instructions. Edited October 24, 2009 by h2theizzo Quote Link to comment
kaliboy96
Does the EI dizzy have a magnetic pick up? I actually think the instructions warn against hooking the tach up to the coil! So would it go to the negative terminal on the matchbox? Quote Link to comment

So would it go to the negative terminal on the matchbox? no the dizzy would have a magnetic pickup. then the coil would have a balast in it. IIRC. So if you have a matchbox dizzy and run msg coil, it should be on the negative side of the coil. hang on let me get a diagram or something what brand/model is your tach? Quote Link to comment

izzo
not sure. Freaky510 has a tach that looks a lot like that one. Msg him and see how he hooked his up and what brand his is. Quote Link to comment
izzo
yours should be the same. I just looked around and found a similar tach, same brand different model. Instructions were the same basically. Quote Link to comment
