195sRFast
My son and I are re-building my dad's 1970 521. I have three complete for parts. I have never rebuilt an engine and its the next thing. I need to know where to start. If possible I'd like to do as much as possible with the engine in the truck. I need to know where to start. Thanks, SM Quote Link to comment
pharouh
Great project! We'd like to see some pics as you do this. first,if you don't have one,is get a Haynes manual and/or a factory service manual. Usually found on Ebay. Are you going to do teardown and assembly or are you going to do the machine work too? I'm getting ready to do the same thing.Probably the same engine. L16? Good luck and keep us posted. Jayden71
I rebuilt the L16 in my '71 521 with motor in truck. Took the head to local shop for valves etc. Took out pistons and rods and honed out cylinders. Did everything to the motor except replace main rod bearings. I am not worried bout them though. Got 5800 miles on rebuild and everything is great. I would start by taking off the head and going from there. I was actually proud of myself when I put engine back together. Not only does it run great but, I did not have any spare parts layin around when I was done.:D The repair manual helps a lot too. Quote Link to comment
