freeze plugs

im helping a friend change his L28e does anyone know the dia. of freeze plugs for these eng.

 

 

i would measure these but my digital caliper has a dead batt

 

rock auto has differnt sizes listed

My L20b is

Dorman part # 556-095

picked them up at O'Reilly

 

Suspect it is the same for the L28e

That's probably because there are 3 different sizes. The standard plugs on the outside, one a little smaller under the timing rail, and a big ol' beast at the back of the block. If nobody answers before tomorrow morning I'll go check.

And in the event you have multiple choices, the side and rear plugs are all concave, while the freeze plug under the guide rail is flat.

Bringing up an old thread but I wanted to confirm that for a Z22e block that the brass freeze plugs need to be 40 too?  This is also for the one on the rear of the block too?

11021-21000 welch plug all L and Z series, six used on the block including the very rear... 40mm. Replacement ones may be concave but Nissan parts are all the same.

 

BTW these are not freeze or frost plugs, and though they might pop out if the block if the coolant should freeze, this is not their purpose. If you have ever seen or had a block freeze you'll know that they do not work. They are really core plugs for removing the internal casting sand.

Freeze plugs sounds baddasser than core plugs though.
