yellowdatsun
Want to know if a 280z radiator will fit in my 280ZX. Reason for asking is I can find all kinds of aluminum radiators for good prices for the 240/260/280z, yet only one for the 280ZX. Plus the one for the 280ZX is really expensive. I read somewhere that the early ones will bolt in, but just want to make sure. Quote Link to comment
Bleach
I'm pretty sure they do. I put a 280ZX radiator in a 280Z and it hung low but still fit. The other way around should be fine. You may find the upper mounting holes line up but the lower ones dont. Quote Link to comment
das280zx
you talking about something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Aluminum-3-ROW-1970-71-72-73-74-75-240z-260z-Radiator_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZQ7c301Q3a0Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a30QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14Q2el1262QQhashZitem27a9083942QQitemZ170339612994QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Looks like a pretty good radiator. Would look nice in my ZX! ;) Quote Link to comment
Skib
you might have to mess with the holes some but itl fit lol i have had a radiator from a 240, 260, 280, and 280zx in my car and thats all thats had to be messed with Quote Link to comment
yellowdatsun
das280zx that's exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. I just saw two new companies for those rads as well via the Fiero radiator thread in the pickup section. But when you go to look up 280ZX they all have nothing. So it's either use a ~$220 unit from the 280z, or spend some ungodly amount for the one Motorsport has. I have a TIG welder, so I could even weld on new mounts, but just want to know if the overall tank size fits without issue. Quote Link to comment
Skib
but just want to know if the overall tank size fits without issue. yup, no problem, the S30 units are just a little shorter than the S130 Quote Link to comment
yellowdatsun
Interesting, doing some more research........it seems the 240/260z has a 13 inch tall core, and the later 280z has a 16 inch core. Also looks like the 280zx has a 16 inch high core. Soo the later ones might be a very direct replacement, should be taller than the pic Skib just supplied. Hmmmmm this may just work afterall. das280zx
Yeah well keep us posted if it does. Also be sure and weigh both the old one and new one, I am curious as to what the weight savings would be! Quote Link to comment
72240z
My friend linked me to that too a while back I think it was talked about on hbz. That right there is an amazing deal, let us know. Quote Link to comment
das280zx
I now see alot of aluminum radiators for the ZX on ebay. I wonder who is making these? They must be mass produced. They look pretty good, but who knows: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NISSAN-280ZX-1983-2-8-L6-ALL-ALUMINUM-RADIATOR-NIB-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a12Q7c66Q3a2Q7c39Q3a1Q7c72Q3a1205Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem3a4f6a64bbQQitemZ250440475835QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Quote Link to comment
das280zx
I emailed the guys selling this one and they said that they are made in China by a company called Silla. So it is a mass produced radiator. Interesting that they would make one for old z cars. I am thinking about getting one, they aren't all that expensive. Quote Link to comment
Bleach
$233 for the ebay one and free shipping You have a few options from Summit Racing for that price range. $180-220 and free shipping. Its true that the eBay one just bolts right in though, assuming it has proper clearance on the bottom side. Quote Link to comment
das280zx
Yes, no fabrication is a big plus! I like the look of having the tanks on top too, looks more old-fashioned! Maybe I shoudl get one, I think mine is original, which means it has 223k miles on it. Quote Link to comment
