kf6rcp
I would like to ask anyone around that if with engine off take the dist cap off and try to rotate the rotor counter clockwise it turns like .5 in then release it and it comes back. Is this normal? Any inputs will be great. Also, if this is not normal what will be the problem? How is it linked to the gears? I know it is hooked up to the oil pump. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Sure you aren't turning clockwise? Quote Link to comment
kf6rcp
nope, when i turn it clockwise it just moves tiny but when I go couter clockwise it moves/turn like .5 inches and when I take my had out it springs back to the original position. Will this be causing my problem when I speed up to like 3rd or 4th gear it starts to back fire and stalls then when I park it on the side and restart it it starts? Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Dazenmike you know????????? I forgot if it moves that much I have to go home and see if it can move that much. KF6rcp, Ill ck I might be wrong on this one. Im not positive if it can move that much. For the mechanical advance. I know the weights cam move a 1/4 inchin for sure in the rotor slots. UPdate, More I think about!!!!! But it does make sense it can move Couter clock wise more as that would be advanced(mechaical operation). IM thinking its more MSD proplem/coil or carb. Do you have a dual points distributor? If so, then you might need to look at your retarded points and make sure it is gapped and set right. And it is normal for your rotor to do that. lol Quote Link to comment
kf6rcp
Thanks Karate kid for checking on the distributor. Quote Link to comment
kf6rcp
Aaron, thanks also for the verification on the distributor. I have a 1978 dizzy with a pick up coil. Its not contact points. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If a true '78 it's not likely a 'matchbox' type, but a remote igniter with a separate box usually mounted under the dash. And YES I miss read the OP you did say counter clockwise. My oops. :D Edited March 13, 2009 by datzenmike Quote Link to comment
